TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – Senior Jonathan Griffin’s mammoth grand slam capped off a seven-run seventh in UCF’s wild 14-10 victory at No. 6 Florida State (35-12) Saturday. It was the Knights’ (29-18) third victory against a top-10 team this season (defeated top-five Florida twice), and they now have seven victories over ranked opponents on the year, which are the most since the 2004 roster also produced seven wins. CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior right-hander Patrick Johnson struck out a career-high 12 batters during seven shutout innings as No. 12 North Carolina (35-10, 14-8 ACC) downed Maryland (20-30, 5-20 ACC), 5-0, Friday night at Boshamer Stadium. The Tar Heels have won four straight games and stretched its streak of not allowing an earned run to 30 innings in the win.
After waiting an hour due to a rain delay, Patrick Johnson came out dealing Friday night as he allowed just four hits and struck out a dozen en route to earning his eighth win of the year.
Colin Moran had a hand in all five runs for the Tar Heels as he scored a pair of runs and drove in three more with a bases-clearing double in the fourth inning to blow the game open.

RADFORD, Va. – The top-ranked Virginia baseball team scored eight runs in the first two innings and never looked back in coasting to a 12-0 victory over Radford Tuesday evening at RU Baseball Stadium in Radford, Va. With the shutout win the Cavaliers broke the ACC single-season record for shutouts with their 12th shutout of the year; the record was held by the 1977 Clemson and 2005 Virginia teams. MACON, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun’s reigning regular-season and tournament champions, FGCU and Mercer shared the top spot in the preseason coaches’ poll, the conference announced on Thursday. ETSU’s Paul Hoilman, the 2010 Player of the Year unanimously earned the preseason tag while FGCU’s all-conference starting pitcher, Richie Erath, received the Preseason Pitcher of the Year honor. College Baseball Daily continues our series of interviews with coaches from across the country today with East Tennessee State head coach Tony Skole. He is entering his 12th season in charge of the program which he led to a 32-28 mark while going 15-12 in Atlantic Sun conference play. The Buccaneers return one of the top senior hitters in the country in Paul Hoilman who won the 2010 TD Ameritrade Home Run Derby at Rosenblatt Stadium and the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game Home Run Derby at Fenway Park. The 2010 Atlantic Sun regular season saw Florida Gulf Coast dominate the conference with a 25-5 conference mark as second place Mercer finished six games back with a 16-11 record. East Tennessee State finished a game behind the Bears with a 15-12 record. North Florida and Jacksonville finished tied for fourth place with a 14-12 record. Stetson rounded out the qualifiers for the Atlantic Sun postseason tournament with a 14-13 record. Belmont at 13-13, Kennesaw State at 12-15, Lipscomb at 9-17, and Campbell at 8-19 were on the outside looking in at the postseason tournament while USC-Upstate went 8-19 as they were not eligible for the A-Sun tournament as they are undergoing an NCAA Reclassifying period. College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the countdown today at number 61 with East Tennessee State senior first baseman Paul Hoilman. The Johnson City Tennessee native had a standout career at Science Hill High School. As a junior, he went 10-1 with a 2.48 ERA while hitting .468 with 9 home runs and 45 RBIs.
