Austin Morgan added to East Carolina Coaching Staff

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Austin Morgan has been named the volunteer assistant baseball coach at East Carolina University according to an announcement from head coach Billy Godwin Wednesday afternoon.
Morgan, who will work directly with the catchers and assist Ben Sanderson as a hitting instructor, was a two-year letterwinner at College of Charleston and helped the Cougars to 74 wins and a pair of Southern Conference Tournament appearances from 2008-09. Read the rest of this entry »

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Former Pirate standout Ben Sanderson has been named assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, while also serving as the hitting and outfield instructor at East Carolina University according to an announcement from head baseball coach Billy Godwin Friday.

We continue the countdown today at number 40 with East Carolina first baseman Chase McDonald. The 6’4 250 pound first baseman hails from Greenville, North Carolina and attended J.H. Rose High School. He was a four-year letterwinner for head coach Ronald Vincent. His senior season saw him hit 12 home runs and batting .510 for the Rampants on his way to team MVP and All-State honors. After falling in the NCAA Charlottesville Regional Final to overall top seed Virginia to conclude the 2011 baseball campaign, East Carolina head coach Billy Godwin was faced with rebuilding a depleted pitching staff. The Pirate skipper and his staff had to find a way to cope with losing a stable of arms that produced the nation’s seventh-best team earned run average (2.67) last season. The group saw five of its members ink professional contracts this offseason and witnessed the departure of All-American Seth Maness. Suddenly, arms were at a premium.
