The Minnesota Vikings are currently in negotiations to build a new stadium to replace the aging Metrodome. Current St. Cloud State shortstop Kent Koch has a huge week ahead of him. He will start up practice today for the upcoming 2011 season and will be sworn in as mayor of his hometown Loretto tomorrow. Kock won the mayoral race for a two year term back in November when he ran unopposed. Last season, Koch played in 43 games (29 starts) while hitting .333 with two homers and 19 RBI. Collegiate Baseball Newspaper has released their 2011 Preseason Division 3 Poll. This year Heidelberg (OH) takes the top spot in the poll after going 42-8 last season where they appeared in the Division 3 College World Series. Coming in at number 2 is SUNY-Cortland who went 40-10-1 last season as they played in the Division 3 title game in 2010. The Top 5 is rounded out by Wisconsin-Stevens Point at number 3, Kean, NJ at number 4, and defending national champion Illinois Wesleyan checking in at number 5. As nearly everybody saw last weekend, the Metrodome roof collapsed from the weight of snow which caused the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings to move their last two home games to other sites. The Metrodome is the home to over 100 college baseball games during the early part of the season with some days featuring 24 straight hours of baseball.
