Sherman Reed named Head Coach at Coppin State

Former Coppin State assistant coach Sherman Reed was named Friday as the new head coach of the Eagle program announced director of athletics Derrick Ramsey.
Reed replaces Mike Scolinos who left the program in June to pursue other professional opportunities.
Reed was an assistant coach at Coppin State in 2008 under former head coach Harvey Lee and in 2009 working with Scolinos.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The fourth-ranked Virginia baseball team was solid in all phases of the game in a 12-2 win over Radford Wednesday night at Davenport Field. Virginia racked up 16 hits in the victory, while the pitching staff limited Radford to just four hits and seven baserunners.
Whit Mayberry (Fr., Alexandria, Va.) made his first start at Virginia and earned his first career win. Mayberry (1-1) pitched five strong innings, allowing one earned run, three hits and one walk while striking out a pair. UVa’s bullpen – Chad O’Connor (R-Fr., Chesapeake, Va.), Tyler Wilson (Jr., Midlothian, Va.),Branden Kline (Fr., Frederick, Md.) and Neal Davis (Sr., Baltimore, Md.) – held the Highlanders to one hit and three baserunners over the final four innings.

ATLANTA – Mark Pope scattered four hits over eight innings, while Matt Skole and Chase Burnette hit home runs to lead the second-ranked Georgia Tech baseball team (26-3, 11-1 ACC) over Kennesaw State (13-18, 4-5 A-Sun), 8-2, Tuesday night at Russ Chandler Stadium.
The eight innings were a career high for Pope, who improved to 4-0 on the season with the win. The sophomore right-hander struck out six batters, allowing just two runs to cross the plate.
2010 MEAC Preseason Coaches Poll

The MEAC Conference announced its 2010 pre-season baseball award winners on Wednesday. The B-CU Wildcats were named the unanimous pick to win the team championship for a fifth straight season.
Wildcat sophomore LHP Ali Simpson was named the pre-season pitcher of the year and senior C. J. Lauriello was named the co-player of the year in the voting by conference head baseball coaches and sports information directors.
Coppin State, Tennessee Tech Release 2010 Schedules
The Coppin State Eagles have released their 2010 baseball schedule. The Eagles will begin the season with a seven game road trip with stops at Longwood (Feb. 19-20), George Washington (Feb. 26-27), and Navy (March 3). They will then return home for seventeen straight home contests including weekend series against Iona (March 6-7), Lehigh (March 12-13), Maryland Eastern Shore (March 27-28), and Niagara (March 30-31).

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – A two-run home run by Jose Iglesias in the eighth inning, and two Tar Heel errors in the ninth lifted No. 18 Coastal Carolina to a 7-3 win over No. 1 North Carolina Tuesday at Bryson Field at Boshamer Stadium. North Dakota State
Head Coach Tod Brown and the Bison’s of North Dakota State open their 2009 campaign on the road against Wichita State in a three game set starting on the 20th of February. The Bison’s hit the road again the following weekend to take on Murray State in a four game series with a double header on Saturday. Coach Brown and the Bison’s to take part in the Palm Beach Challenge.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – For the second time in the last four games, a walk-off home run propelled No. 1 Miami to a win. Junior left fielder Dave DiNatale sent the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the 11th over the fence in left field as top-ranked Miami walked off with a 4-2 win over Florida Gulf Coast Tuesday night at Mark Light Field. Hofstra, Louisville, Ohio State, Monmouth, NIU, James Madison, and North Florida pick up wins

Hempstead, NY- Hofstra scored three or more runs in the first three innings during which Matt Kougasian had four RBI and Nick Panzarella had three RBI as the Pride defeated Coppin State, 12-3, Wednesday afternoon. With the victory the Pride improve to 8-16 while the Eagles fall to 3-23.
Hofstra jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning. After the first three runners reached base for the Pride, Kougasian drove a run home with a sacrifice fly for the first run. Northeastern, Hofstra, and Holy Cross pick up wins

Northeastern 4 Western Michigan 2
The Northeastern University baseball team defeated the Western Michigan Broncos 4-2 on Thursday afternoon at IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla. Sophomore Charly Bashara improved to 1-0 on the season after outdueling the Broncos’ Ethan Hollingsworth.
Bashara finished with a final line of six innings, four hits, one earned run, four strikeouts and no walks, making it the second straight day that the Huskies were able to silence the heavy-hitting Bronco lineup. Senior Bobby Carrington was strong for out of the ‘pen for the Huskies, tossing three scoreless innings to pick up the save. Read the rest of this entry »
