Team USA defeats Morehead City 6-1

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. – Carlos Rodon (NC State) struck out seven in four innings and combined with four other pitchers on a three-hitter as the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team beat the Morehead City Marlins, 6-1, with 2,117 fans on hand at Puck O’Neill Field at Big Rock Stadium on a picture-perfect Wednesday evening. USA Collegiate Team defeats Wilmington Sharks 7-4

FROM USA BASEBALL RELEASEWILMINGTON, N.C. — Kris Bryant (San Diego) hit a two-run home run in the first inning and five pitchers combined to strike out 12 as the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team cruised to a 7-4 win over the Wilmington Sharks of the Coastal Plain League in front of 2,733 on Tuesday night at Buck Hardee Field. We continue the countdown today at number 18 with redshirt sophomore outfielder Daniel Aldrich from the College of Charleston. He went to Wando High School in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina where he player for coach Jeff Blankenship. As a senior, he hit.461 with 43 RBI while leading the state with 13 homers. He was a two-time All-State selection. College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 40 with East Carolina first baseman Chase McDonald. The 6’4 250 pound first baseman hails from Greenville, North Carolina and attended J.H. Rose High School. He was a four-year letterwinner for head coach Ronald Vincent. His senior season saw him hit 12 home runs and batting .510 for the Rampants on his way to team MVP and All-State honors. Heading into his senior season, he was named a Under Armour Preseason All-American. Continue reading

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 49 with NC State junior RHP Chris Overman. The Charlotte, North Carolina native attended Myers Park High School. As a senior, he was named to The Charlotte Observer’s All-Mecklenburg team. He also brough the team to a Myers Park to a 19-9 record and the Southwestern 4-A Conference tournament championship, pitching a complete game in the tournament championship game. Continue reading

We continue the countdown today with number 97 junior Wake Forest LHP Brian Holmes. He is from Lawrenceville, Georgia and was a two year letterwinner at Mill Creek High School. As a senior, he went  4-1 with a 1.89 ERA and 43 strikeouts while leading the team to the state playoffs both years.  Continue reading

We start off the countdown today at number 100 with Dartmouth senior shortstop Joe Sclafani from Palm City, Florida and attended Jensen Beach High School. He was a four year letter winner in baseball for Coach Todd Belowich. He helped lead the team as the starting shortstop to a 41-14 record as a junior and senior winning the District 14 title and the Regional runnerup in his final two seasons.  Continue reading

2011 Baseball America Top Prospects for Summer Leagues and Team USA

DURHAM, N.C.–The Southeastern Conference, which has produced college baseball’s last three national champions, dominated Baseball America’s top prospects lists for 20 college summer leagues and Team USA, which have been released at BaseballAmerica.com. The SEC leads all conferences with 24 players on the lists, followed by the Pacific-12 (22 players), the Big 12 (18 players) and the Atlantic Coast (17). The ACC leads all conferences with four players ranking as the No. 1 prospects in their respective leagues. Continue reading

USA Collegiate National Team hammers Gastonia, 12-5

GASTONIA, N.C. – Michael Lorenzen (Cal State Fullerton) homered and drove in four to lead the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team to a 12-5 win over Gastonia Thursday night at Sims Legion Park.

Every player in the lineup – nine total — recorded at least one hit in the team’s win as the club tallied 15 overall and improved to 6-1 this summer. Thursday’s game marked the finale for Team USA against summer collegiate clubs with the two-game Prospect Classic against the 18U National Team scheduled to get underway Friday. Continue reading
