CBD Quick Hits for Feb. 18th

Here are some of my quick thoughts from games played on February 18th.

One of the things heading into the weekend that I wanted to see was how dominate Marcus Stroman would be with the Duke Blue Devils as a starting pitcher. He was far from dominant in his first start of the year on Saturday, lasting only five innings giving up three runs on four hits and six walks against the Texas Longhorns. I still believe he will be a great reliever but doesn’t have the type of stuff to be a starting pitcher but that is just my opinion. The Blue Devils ended up losing that game 4-0 in seven innings before dropping the nightcap 5-3. Continue reading

Coastal Carolina announces Facility Renovations to Baseball and Softball Facilities

CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina University baseball and softball programs have received approval from the State of South Carolina including finalized architectural renderings for a $10.2 million renovation that will put both programs’ facilities among the nation’s upper echelon.

The close proximity of the baseball and softball stadiums, combined with the $1.2 million Practice/Hitting Facility that was completed last spring, will give Coastal Carolina perhaps the best overall baseball-softball combined facilities in the nation. Continue reading


2012 Preseason Big South Coaches Poll Released

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – For the fifth consecutive year, Coastal Carolina University’s baseball team has been voted the Big South Conference’s preseason favorite by the League’s Head Baseball Coaches, it was announced today by the Conference office. In addition, the coaches voted Presbyterian sophomore catcher/first baseman Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.) the Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year and Coastal Carolina junior Josh Conway (Smithsburg, Md.) the League’s Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Coastal Carolina releases 2012 Schedule

CONWAY – Gary Gilmore, who is in his 17th year as Coastal Carolina head coach, announced the Chanticleer 2012 baseball schedule Friday. The slate features five home tournaments, 23 straight home games from opening day (Feb. 17) until March 25 and non-conference road trips to North Carolina, The Citadel, UNC Wilmington, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Michigan and College of Charleston. Indiana: Cream 11 Crimson 1

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The 2011 IU Baseball Cream vs. Crimson Fall Series will go to a game five as the Cream Squad blasted Crimson, 11-1, on Saturday. Chad Martin delivered five shutout innings on the mound for the second time in the series, striking out eight batters in game four. Continue reading

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina baseball team started its 2011 fall World Series Friday afternoon with the Bronze squad edging the Black squad 4-2, following a one-and-a-half hour session of showing their skills to at least 25 Major League Baseball scouts at Watson Stadium. Continue reading

Coastal Carolina Promotes Drew Thomas

CONWAY – Coastal Carolina head baseball coach Gary Gilmore announced today the promotion of pitching coach Drew Thomas to a full-time post on the staff, replacing former assistant Brendan Dougherty who left to take a similar position at Western Kentucky.

Thomas, who spent the past five seasons at Coastal Carolina as a volunteer assistant and the camps coordinator, will remain pitching coach and now have the ability to recruit off campus. Continue reading


Western Kentucky adds Brendan Dougherty to Coaching Staff

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Western Kentucky University head baseball coach Matt Myers announced Thursday that Brendan Dougherty has joined the Hilltopper coaching staff after spending six seasons at Coastal Carolina. Dougherty will work with the infielders and handle the team defense. Continue reading
