SouthFloridaPic Freshman Mike Zunino (Cape Coral, Fla.) delivered a walk-off single down the right-field line in the 10th inning as No. 7 Florida (3-0) completed a sweep of USF (0-3), 7-6, on Sunday afternoon at McKethan Stadium. The Gators had rallied to force extra innings with three runs in the ninth, including the tying run on a two-out fielding error by sophomore shortstop Sam Mende.

Big East Recap for February 20th

Here is your Big East Recap for February 20th.

KyleHelisekNova No. 7 Florida (2-0) clinched its season-opening weekend series with a 9-1 victory over USF (0-2) on Saturday afternoon before a crowd of 3,723 fans at McKethan Stadium. Freshman left-hander Brian Johnson (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) tossed 5.2 scoreless innings in his collegiate debut to pick up the win, while sophomore Tyler Thompson (Tequesta, Fla.) (2-for-5) had a career-high four RBI, highlighted by a bases-clearing double in the eighth inning. Freshmen Kamm Washington (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and Austin Maddox (Jacksonville, Fla.) belted solo homers in the triumph for the Orange and Blue.

Big East Recap for February 19th

Here is your Big East Recap for February 19th.

Florida 6 South Florida 2

SouthFlorida Gainesville, FL- Junior Josh Adams (Jacksonville, Fla.) powered No. 7 Florida to a 6-2 victory over USF in front of 3,309 fans at McKethan Stadium in the season opener for both teams on Friday. The two-time All-SEC second baseman was a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, a pair of home runs and a double. In his collegiate debut, freshman Austin Maddox (Jacksonville, Fla.) went 2-for-4 and blasted a two-run homer on the first swing of his Gator career. Making his return to the lineup after missing the 2009 campaign, redshirt sophomore right-hander Tommy Toledo (Tampa, Fla.) scattered three hits, registered four strikeouts and allowed an unearned run in 3.1 innings.

2010 CBB Season Preview: Big East

Big East The College Baseball Blog continues our series of conference previews today with the Big East Conference. Louisville won the conference regular season and postseason titles in 2009 with a 47-18 overall record while going 19-7 in Big East play. The Cardinals were the only team selected to play in the 2009 NCAA Tourney out of the Big East where they won the Louisville Regional before losing to Cal-State Fullerton. Continue reading

Cincinnati releases 2010 Schedule

MargeSchottStadium CINCINNATI – Two trips to Florida to open the season and 31 home games highlight the 2010 University of Cincinnati baseball schedule. After falling just one win short of its second consecutive 30-win season, the Bearcats look to eclipse that plateau and contend for a BIG EAST Conference Championship in 2010.

UC will spend the first two weeks of the season in Florida beginning with a three-game set in Boca Raton, Fla., Feb. 19-21 against Florida Atlantic University. The Bearcats will then return to the Sunshine State Feb. 26-28, when they participate in the second Big Ten-BIG EAST Baseball Challenge in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater, Fla., area. Cincinnati will open the Big Ten-BIG EAST Baseball Challenge against Penn State, before taking on Purdue and Ohio State to round out the event.

Greg Mamula added to Cincinnati coaching staff

GregMamula CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati Baseball team has named Greg Mamula as an assistant coach, head coach Brian Cleary announced today. Mamula joins the staff after three years as the head coach at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. During his tenure, he averaged 41 wins per season while compiling an overall coaching record of 124-45 (.734).

KR: Looks at the Big East heading into Fall Workouts

BigEast Kendall Rogers of Rivals continues his series of conference previews heading into fall ball today with the Big East Conference. He believes that the conference needs to take a massive step forward after the top three teams in St. John’s, Louisville, and Notre Dame in competing for a CWS title. Of course, the Big East has a major disadvantage as many of the schools in the conference have substandard facilities and poor weather which affects early season workouts.

Doubleheaders at Dunedin Stadium and Bright House Field highlight a slate that features 30 games over three days, Feb. 26‐28, 2010, at current and former big league facilities in the St. Petersburg and Clearwater, Fla., area.
