CINCINNATI – A trip to Florida for the BIG EAST/Big Ten Baseball Challenge and 28 home games highlight the 2011 University of Cincinnati baseball schedule. After falling one win short of a 30-win season, the Bearcats aim to surpass that mark this season and compete for the 2011 BIG EAST Conference Championship.
“We’re excited about our schedule, especially the challenges early,” said head coach Brian Cleary. “We look forward to 29 home games, including the Joe Nuxhall Classic and what promises to be an exciting conclusion to the BIG EAST season with consecutive home series’ to end the regular season.”

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The schedule has been finalized for the 2011 BIG EAST/Big Ten Baseball Challenge, hosted by the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Sports Commission, as announced by the BIG EAST and Big Ten conference offices Tuesday. Triple-headers on Friday and Saturday highlight a slate that features 24 games over three days, Feb. 18-20, 2011, at current and former major league facilities in the St. Petersburg and Clearwater, Fla., area.

#9 Louisville 4 St. John’s 3 (Bottom 8)
CLEARWATER, Fla. – Jimmy Parque had a solo home run in the seventh and a two-run single in the eighth as St. John’s rallied back from a 4-2 deficit to defeat No.9 Louisville, 6-5. Parque was 2-for-4 with three RBI to lead St. John’s (38-18), while Matt Wessinger was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Matt Carasiti (7-4) tossed 0.2 innings of relief to earn the win, while Bruce Kern took a no-decision after 5.1 innings of work. Ryan Wright was 4-for-4 with two RBI to lead Louisville (47-11).
After being set down in order in each of the first two innings, St. John’s took a 2-0 lead in the third. Paul Karmas led off the frame with a single through the left side, but was erased as Sean O’Hare reached first on a fielder’s choice. O’Hare moved to second on a passed ball before Joe Witkowski drew a walk to set up runners on first and second. Wessinger then lofted a two-out RBI single into center field, but the throw to third base bounced into the stands and another run scored on the play.

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Keyed by sophomore second baseman Ryan Wright’s game-winning three-run homer in the seventh, the ninth-ranked Louisville baseball team scored 10 unanswered runs during the final three innings to earn an 11-4 victory over West Virginia on Wednesday in the first round of the 2010 BIG EAST Championship at Bright House Field.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Fourth-ranked Florida State (20-4) defeated No. 8 Florida (18-6) 7-2 Tuesday evening in front of a sell out crowd of 9,276 at the Baseball Grounds in Jacksonville. The Seminoles collected their sixth win in a row and their third straight over the Gators in Jacksonville. FSU moved to 2-1 against Florida this year with the final game of the regular season series coming on Tuesday, April 13 in Tallahassee.
Geoff Parker and Brian Busch led FSU on Tuesday night as the two Seminole pitchers combined to hold the Gators to just two runs on six hits.

Freshman Mike Zunino (Cape Coral, Fla.) delivered a walk-off single down the right-field line in the 10th inning as No. 7 Florida (3-0) completed a sweep of USF (0-3), 7-6, on Sunday afternoon at McKethan Stadium. The Gators had rallied to force extra innings with three runs in the ninth, including the tying run on a two-out fielding error by sophomore shortstop Sam Mende.

No. 7 Florida (2-0) clinched its season-opening weekend series with a 9-1 victory over USF (0-2) on Saturday afternoon before a crowd of 3,723 fans at McKethan Stadium. Freshman left-hander Brian Johnson (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) tossed 5.2 scoreless innings in his collegiate debut to pick up the win, while sophomore Tyler Thompson (Tequesta, Fla.) (2-for-5) had a career-high four RBI, highlighted by a bases-clearing double in the eighth inning. Freshmen Kamm Washington (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and Austin Maddox (Jacksonville, Fla.) belted solo homers in the triumph for the Orange and Blue.

Gainesville, FL- Junior Josh Adams (Jacksonville, Fla.) powered No. 7 Florida to a 6-2 victory over USF in front of 3,309 fans at McKethan Stadium in the season opener for both teams on Friday. The two-time All-SEC second baseman was a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, a pair of home runs and a double. In his collegiate debut, freshman Austin Maddox (Jacksonville, Fla.) went 2-for-4 and blasted a two-run homer on the first swing of his Gator career. Making his return to the lineup after missing the 2009 campaign, redshirt sophomore right-hander Tommy Toledo (Tampa, Fla.) scattered three hits, registered four strikeouts and allowed an unearned run in 3.1 innings.
