Cincinnati names Ty Neal as Head Coach

TyNealCincyCINCINNATI – Indiana University pitching coach Ty Neal, who is regarded as one of the top assistant coaches in college baseball, has been named the University of Cincinnati’s 27th baseball head coach, director of athletics Whit Babcock announced Friday.

Neal, a native of Southwest Ohio, has spent the last eight seasons at IU as the program’s top assistant and recruiting coordinator. He was previously an assistant for the Bearcats in 2004 and both played and coached at Miami (Ohio). The Hoosiers, playing at Florida State this weekend for a berth in the College World Series, are currently ranked No. 8 nationally and playing in the NCAA Super Regionals for the first time in school history. Cincinnati relieves Brian Cleary as Head Coach

BrianClearyCincy_thumb.jpgCINCINNATI – Brian Cleary has been relieved of his duties as the head baseball coach at the University of Cincinnati, director of athletics Whit Babcock announced Thursday. A national search for a successor will begin immediately.

2013 Preseason Big East Coaches Poll Released

BigEastLogoPROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Louisville Cardinals, who tied for the 2012 BIG EAST regular-season title, have been tabbed as the favorites in 2013 by the league’s 11 head coaches.

The Cardinals, who advanced to the NCAA Championship for the seventh time in 2012, reaching the final of the Tucson Regional, received eight first-place votes and 98 points in the coaches’ preseason poll. Big East Weekend Preview (March 23rd-25th)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – This weekend marks the opening weekend of BIG EAST baseball conference play, with 18 games scheduled for Friday-Sunday. CBD Quick Hits for Feb. 18th

Here are some of my quick thoughts from games played on February 18th.

One of the things heading into the weekend that I wanted to see was how dominate Marcus Stroman would be with the Duke Blue Devils as a starting pitcher. He was far from dominant in his first start of the year on Saturday, lasting only five innings giving up three runs on four hits and six walks against the Texas Longhorns. I still believe he will be a great reliever but doesn’t have the type of stuff to be a starting pitcher but that is just my opinion. The Blue Devils ended up losing that game 4-0 in seven innings before dropping the nightcap 5-3. Continue reading CBD Quick Hits for Feb. 18th

2012 Big East Preseason Coaches Poll Released

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – On the heels of back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Championship and a runner-up finish in the BIG EAST last season, St. John’s has been tabbed as the favorite to win the 2012 BIG EAST baseball championship by the league’s 12 head coaches.

The Red Storm received eight of a possible 11 first-place votes in the preseason poll. The coaches also chose St. John’s outfielder Jeremy Baltz as the BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year and named Louisville righthanded pitcher Justin Amlung the BIG EAST Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Cincinnati wraps up Fall Practice

Shawn Sell of Cincinnati Media Relations recently caught up with Bearcats head coach Brian Cleary recapping the fall practice season. The Bearcats are coming off a 30-27 season with a 14-13 mark in Big East play. University of Cincinnati Announces 2012 Schedule

CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati baseball coach Brian Cleary announced the 2012 schedule on Tuesday. The schedule features 30 home games at Marge Schott Stadium, three opponents that advanced to the 2011 NCAA Championship, and a return trip to the BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge.
