Seth Williams hit a three run homer to break a tie at 3 in the bottom of the ninth to lead the Tar Heels to a 6-3 victory over Charlotte on Tuesday. The Tar Heels got 5.2 scoreless innings of relief from Matt Danford and Andrew Carignan. UNC was led on offense by Freshman All-American candidate Dustin Ackley who continued his hitting steak to 27 games by going 3-4 with an RBI. Charlotte’s offensive star was Chris Lane who was perfect in his three plate appearances with an RBI. UNC will be back in action on Wednesday when they head to Elon while Charlotte will host Presbyterian before going to URI this weekend. The CBB might check out Charlotte this weekend.

Wake Forest walks off with a 9-7 victory

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons used a two run homer in the bottom of the tenth inning by Tyler Smith to give them an exciting 9-7 victory over the Charlotte 49ers. This was Smith’s first at bat on the season and he produced in a big way. Charlotte starter Spencer Steedley had a rough outing by going 6+ innings while giving up six runs (only five earned). Ryan Hamilton picked up the loss for the 49ers by going 2.0 innings and gave up the two run homer. Ben Hunter picked up the win for the Demon Deacons by giving them 2.2 scoreless innings of relief while only giving up one hit to pick up his first victory of the young season.

Charlotte destroys Va Tech

The Charlotte 49ers took out the Virginia Tech Hokies by a score of 11-0. This is the 49ers second consecutive shutout to extend their scoreless streak to 23 innings. This was the Hokies first game under new Head Coach Peter Hughes who left Boston College last season. Coach Hughes has not changed anything in his coaching style with two runners thrown out but they were able to get two stolen bases in the game. I still wonder if Peter Hughes style of baseball will be successful in the ACC.
