We have some interesting Mid-Week games coming up on Tuesday which is highlighted by Clemson and Georgia playing a home and home series. The College of Charleston will play against cross town rival Charleston Southern while Alabama will play two games against UAB, Ohio State plays Toledo, Coastal Carolina will play against Wake Forest and Elon. CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Coastal Carolina University’s baseball team has been unanimously voted the Big South Conference’s preseason favorite, as voted by the League’s Head Baseball Coaches and Sports Information Directors, it was announced today by the Conference office. In addition, Chanticleers’ junior outfielder David Sappelt (Saxapahaw, N.C.) has been voted the Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year, while junior teammate Bobby Gagg (Hamburg, N.J.) was voted Preseason Pitcher of the Year by the panel. The Citadel picked up an 8-2 victory over the Charleston Southern Bucs on Tuesday night. They received a strong pitching effort from Chris McGuinness (3-2) who pitched five innings while giving up only two unearned runs to grab the win. The Citadel offensive star was Chris Swauger who had three hits including a home run and drove in three runs. Ryan Rowland (3-7) took the loss for Charleston Southern as he gave up five runs in three innings. Chris Krogmeier and Wes Brundridge each picked up two hits in the losing effort. The Citadel will be back in action this weekend when they head to Furman for a Thursday-Saturday while Charleston Southern hosts Radford.
Charleston Southern will welcome The Citadel to Buccaneer Field on Wednesday for a non-conference match up between cross town rivals. Charleston Southern enters with a 15-27 record while The Citadel enter with a 22-13 record. The Citadel are expected to start Nick Sprowls will make his first collegiate start. He has pitched 7.0 innings this season with a 2.57 ERA. The Bucs will counter with T.J. Green who is 0-2 with a 3.62 ERA.
