Starkville, Miss. – Facing elimination yet again, the Central Arkansas Bears did what they have done so well over the past week and a half, staring the end of their season in the face and refusing to give in. The fourth-seeded Bears rode an outstanding performance from true freshman Connor Gilmore to a 3-0 win over the second-seeded South Alabama Jaguars, eliminating the Jags and surviving for a rematch against top-seeded Mississippi State. Starkville, Miss. – Playing in their sixth elimination game in the past eight days, the Central Arkansas Bears showed that the threat of neither elimination nor rain was enough to put them away. The fourth-seeded Bears overcame a rain delay and a comeback attempt to win their first ever NCAA tournament game, defeating the third-seeded Mercer Bears by a final score of 6-5 in eleven innings to keep their season alive for at least one more day. 2013 Starkville Regional Day 1 Recap

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Anthony Izzio scattered seven hits and allowed just one run in six innings pitched to lead the second-seeded University of South Alabama baseball team to a 9-4 win over third-seeded Mercer in the opening round of the NCAA Starkville Regional at Dudy Noble Field.

Izzio (4-0) struck out five and issued one walk to earn his fourth consecutive win in as many appearances. It also marked South Alabama’s first NCAA Regional win since 2006. Read the rest of this entry »

2013 Starkville NCAA Regional Preview

This field is stacked and is considered among the toughest regionals in the field of 64. The No. 1 seed Bulldogs have been playing good baseball as of late, but No. 2 seed South Alabama was also in hosting considerations. Central Arkansas releases 2013 Schedule

Central Arkansas has announced their 2013 Schedule which features 27 home games. They kick off the 2013 season hosting Murray State for a three game set starting on February 15th. They will continue the homestand the following weekend against Jackson State for a three game set before completing the season opening homestand with a three game series against New Orleans. 2012 CBD Season Preview: Southland Conference

Last season was all about Texas State. The Bobcats went in with the top pitcher, and found out quickly they also had the top hitter in the Southland. RHP Carson Smith is gone, but 1B Casey Kalenkosky, an NJCAA All-American turned NCAA All-American, is back for another round. Coach Ty Harrington only lost a few starters on the field, and returned a strong nucleus of hitters to go along with a pitching staff that was more than capable of getting the team to the NCAA postseason. 2011 CBD Season Preview: Southland Conference

2010 saw three Southland teams with a chance to make the postseason, but tournament champion Lamar was the only team in, as Texas State and Southeastern Louisiana were left to think about next year. This year, the league belongs to the Bobcats and Lions, as both teams return a wealth of talent. Texas State is led by All-American candidate P Carson Smith, the league’s top prospect.
