Cal State Fullerton 6, Arizona State 1
Thomas Eshelman followed suit and dominated on the mound for Cal State Fullerton as the Titans (51-8) punched their ticket to the Super Regionals with a 6-1 victory over Arizona State Sunday evening at Goodwin Field.
Eshelman just did what Grahamm Wiest and Justin Garza did ahead of him on Friday and Saturday, securing a three-game sweep of the Fullerton (CA) Regional. The Titans advance to the Sweet 16 of college baseball, the Super Regionals. They will host UCLA next weekend beginning Friday at 4 p.m. with games scheduled Saturday at 7 p.m. and, if necessary, Sunday at 7 p.m. as well. Continue reading
LOS ANGELES — Kris Bryant entered the postgame press conference with tears in his eyes. San Diego’s All-American slugger of legendary tales and heroic triumphs this season had been revealed to be a mortal man.
Like all players, Bryant saw his career come to a close. And like most, it ended in tears of sadness rather than glory.
Grant Watson stymied the probable top three draft pick and his Torero teammates as UCLA defeated San Diego 6-0 in Sunday night’s Los Angeles Regional championship game to advance to the Super Regionals for the fourth time in the last seven years. Continue reading
LOS ANGELES – Troy Conyers came on in relief and picked up his third win of the season while also delivering a big two-run single to help lead San Diego past Cal Poly, 8-5, in a Los Angeles Regional elimination game Sunday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
San Diego (37-24) and Cal Poly (40-19) battled back and forth until the fifth inning when AJ Robinson scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball. The Toreros plated four runs in the sixth inning despite Conyers’ two-run single being the only hit in the inning. Continue reading
Columbia 6, New Mexico 5
Fourth-seeded Columbia rallied for five runs in the eighth inning to erase a 5-0 deficit and send the game into extra innings where the Lions defeated New Mexico 6-5 on a Nick Crucet RBI single in the 13th inning. Continue reading
Nick Torres saw the pitch hit Kevin Williams’ bat. He saw the ball go up in the air and knew it was coming his way.
The only problem was the Cal Poly right fielder didn’t know where the ball was. He lost it in the dusk sky and poor lighting of Jackie Robinson Stadium…and the bases happened to be loaded.
Williams raced around to third base with a bases-clearing triple before Torres could locate the ball that landed just shy of the warning track. Continue reading
San Diego State opened the season by ruining San Diego’s grand opening of its brand new $13.8 million stadium, Fowler Park. The Aztecs wanted to finish the season in the same fashion when the two teams met Saturday afternoon in an elimination game of the Los Angeles Regional.
Instead, it was the Toreros that got the satisfaction of putting out their city rival. Dylan Covey produced his strongest outing of the season to lead San Diego to a 6-3 win at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Continue reading
Adam Plutko was unsure about the middle innings, but knew his experience carried him through the sixth and severth innings. The veteran right hander tossed seven innings, allowing only one earned run to collect his fifth career postseason victory — setting a school record for No. 10 UCLA.
The Bruins (40-17) defeated San Diego State 5-3 in the opening round of NCAA Regional action at Jackie Robinson Stadium Friday night. UCLA now advances to play Cal Poly at 6 p.m. Saturday evening after the Mustangs defeated San Diego earlier in the day. Continue reading

FULLERTON, CA – On Friday at Goodwin Field the No. 24 Arizona State Sun Devils and the New Mexico Lobos kicked off the Fullerton Regional as ASU defeated the Mountain West champions in a 4-3 finish.
Mitch Garver of New Mexico put the Lobos on the board in the first with an RBI single to drive in Chase Harris who led off the inning with a single to left field. Continue reading
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Austin Pettibone lifted UC Santa Barbara on his shoulders, delivering three pitches for strikes and keeping Texas A&M off-balance for 7 2/3 innings in the Corvallis Regional. The Gauchos responded to his efforts, providing enough offense for a 6-4 victory in their postseason appearance since 2001.
For A&M, workhorse ace Daniel Mengden wasn’t his usual efficient self, lasting just one out into the fourth. He gave up six hits, five runs – four earned – and three walks in front of 1,783 baseball fans at Goss Stadium. Continue reading
