2014 CBD Top 100 Countdown: 24. Matthew Troupe (Arizona)

Number 24 on our countdown is Arizona junior RHP Matthew Troupe. The Chaminade College Prep alumnus originally was a highly regarded high school catcher but became a pitcher late in his collegiate career. As a senior, he went 5-2 record and a 1.00 ERA while striking out 91, allowing just 19 walks and limited opponents to a .157 batting average. He was selected in the by the New York Yankees with the 539th overall pick in the 16th round of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Continue reading

JDDavisplateCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2014 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be adding players day-by-day until we get to number one!

Number 25 on our countdown is Cal State Fullerton junior first baseman and RHP JD Davis. The Elk Grove High School native was a four-year letter winner at Elk Grove High School. He was a two time All-American selection in his junior and senior year with outstanding campaigns which he hit .486 batting average with 8 homers, 60 RBI, 1.80 ERA, 91 strikeouts as a junior and a .505 batting average, 9 homers, 45 RBI, 1.56 ERA, 70 strikeouts. He was selected in the fifth round of the 2011 MLB Draft. Continue reading

Number 26 on our countdown is Kentucky junior outfielder Austin Cousino. The Dublin, Ohio native attended Dublin Coffman High School where he was an All-American. As a senior, he batted .529 with 17 doubles, 10 homers, 31 RBI and was a perfect 28-for-28 on the base paths. He picked up several awards including Central District, All-Metro Player of the Year, and American Baseball Coaches Association Gold Glove winner. Continue reading

Number 27 on our countdown is junior RHP Brett Graves from Missouri. The St. Charles, Missouri native attended Francis Howell High School where he was a three time all-state selection. As a senior, he was named First Team Louisville Slugger All-American and All-Metro Player of the Year in St. Louis after going 9-1 with a 1.95 ERA and 70 strikeouts. At the plate, he hit .441 with six home runs and 35 RBI as the Vikings leadoff hitter. He was selected in the 26th round by the hometown St. Louis Cardinals but decided to head to Missouri. Number 28 on our countdown is junior RHP Chad Sobotka from South Carolina-Upstate. The 6’6 righty was a four year letter winner at Riverview High School. As a senior, he went 4-2 with a 3.20 ERA with him named the team’s MVP. Continue reading

Number 29 on our countdown is junior Kevin Cron from TCU. The Phoenix, Arizona native attended Mountain Pointe, High School where he was a three year letter winner. As a senior, he hit a single-season state record 27 home runs with a .560 average and driving in 65 runs. He was picked in the third round by the Seattle Mariners but decided to head to college to play for the TCU Horned Frogs.  Continue reading

TwomeyCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2014 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be adding players day-by-day until we get to number one!

Number 30 on our countdown today is USC sophomore Kyle Twomey who is primed for a breakout 2014 season for the Trojans. The Placentia, California native was a four year letter winner at El Dorado High School. He won several awards during his high school career the Century League Pitcher of the Year, All-Orange County All-Star, All-American, All-CIF and MVP of the National Classic as a senior. During his junior season, In 2011, he won the Century League Pitcher of the Year, named All-State, and an Under Armour All-American. His sophomore year saw him earn All-League honors while Century League Rookie of the Year in 2009 as a freshman. The Oakland Athletics selected him in the third round of the 2012 MLB Draft but Twomey decided to head to USC. Continue reading

Today, we continue the countdown at number 32 with Florida State sophomore DJ Stewart. The multi-sport high school athlete at The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida hit .424, driving in 29 runs while hitting nine home runs as a senior.He was very successful at winning state titles with five combined state championships in his career at Bolles (three in football and two in baseball). Today, we continue the countdown at number 34 with Derek Fisher from Virginia. The Rexmont, Pennsylvania native attended Cedar Crest High School where he had an outstanding career including being named all-state three times. He hit .484 with 12 home runs and 31 RBI as a senior. He was selected by Texas Rangers in sixth round of 2011 MLB Draft but decided to head to Virginia.  Continue reading
