2011 CBD Season Preview: SEC Western Division

The SEC Western Division was won by the Auburn Tigers during 2010 season with a 20-10 record. Coming in as the runner up was the Arkansas Razorbacks who went 18-12. Ole Miss finished third at 16-14 while Alabama came in fourth at 15-15. LSU went 14-16 for a fifth place finish and Mississippi State finished last with a 6-24 mark. Continue reading

2011 CBD Season Preview: Pac 10

The Pac-10 sent eight teams to the regionals in 2010, while UCLA and Arizona State both advanced to the College World Series, with the Bruins losing in the championship series to South Carolina.  With the amount of teams making the postseason, as well as 20+ game winning streaks by UCLA and Arizona State to start the season, the conference established itself as the premier conference in the country, with most of its elite players returning for 2011. 2011 CBD Season Preview: Freshmen to Watch

The freshman class for this season is the best in recent years with two top 15 picks deciding to spurn the MLB Draft for the next three seasons in Dylan Covey and Karsten Whitson. Covey decided to head to San Diego while Whitson ended up at Florida. They are not the only ones that decided to head to college as we have put together our 2011 Top Freshmen to Watch. 2011 CBD Season Preview: Southland Conference

2010 saw three Southland teams with a chance to make the postseason, but tournament champion Lamar was the only team in, as Texas State and Southeastern Louisiana were left to think about next year. This year, the league belongs to the Bobcats and Lions, as both teams return a wealth of talent. Texas State is led by All-American candidate P Carson Smith, the league’s top prospect. Southeastern Louisiana returns most of their team, minus closer Chris Franklin. Continue reading

2011 CBD Season Preview: SEC Eastern Division

The SEC won another national championship this season with South Carolina grabbing the national title by sweeping the UCLA Bruins in the CWS Championship Series. It was the conference’s second straight national title (LSU 2009) and eighth since 1990.

The SEC Eastern Division was won by the Florida Gators with a 22-8 SEC record, while finishing the season with an overall record of 47-17. The Gamecocks finished one game behind the Gators in the division going 21-9 while having an overall record of 54-16. The Vanderbilt Commodores finished in third place with a conference mark of 16-12 and a 46-20 overall record as they advanced all the way to the Super Regionals, where they were defeated by the Florida State Seminoles in three games. Kentucky (31-25 overall, 13-17 SEC), Tennessee (30-26, 12-18 SEC), and Georgia (16-37 overall, 5-23 SEC) all did not qualify for the SEC or NCAA Tournaments. Continue reading

2011 CBD Season Preview: Mountain West

The Mountain West Conference was dominated by TCU last season as the Horned Frogs went 21-5 to win the conference by four games over New Mexico, who went 14-8. San Diego State finished third, with a 13-11 record. BYU finished in fourth place at 12-12, while UNLV finished in fifth place with a 11-13 record. Utah finished sixth at 10-13, with Air Force struggling mightily as they finished 3-20.  Continue reading

The Big 12 Conference had a good season in 2010, boasting a CWS team in Oklahoma, and seeing the Texas Longhorns compile an incredible 24-3 conference record, with half the members making the post season. 2011 promises good things for the league. Four teams have been ranked in the NCBWA poll, with a total of six players earning spots on the NCBWA All-American teams. Continue reading
