2011 MLB Draft News and Notes for August 6th

The MLB Signing Deadline is fast approaching as all teams have till midnight on August 15th to sign their prospects or they will head to college. Here is the latest news and notes from around the country.

Clemson signee Daniel Norris,  out Johnson City, TN and Science Hill High School was in Dunedin, Florida to have his physical according to a tweet from Keith Law on Friday afternoon. Norris was selected with the 74th overall pick but was widely considered to be the top lefthanded arm in the 2011 MLB Draft. If the news is true about him being in Dunedin for a physical, it would mean that the Blue Jays have started to seriously consider signing him and a deal could be coming soon.  Read the rest of this entry »

UConn’s Springer looking to play Independent Baseball?

MLBTradeRumors.com reports that Houston Astros first round pick George Springer met with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League on Saturday. Springer was selected with the 11th overall pick in the 2011 MLB Draft after an outstanding career at UConn where he led the Huskies to an appearance in the Super Regionals. South Carolina’s Bradley Jr. looking to Return?

WEEI.com writer Alex Speier reports that South Carolina outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. is preparing to return to Columbia for the 2012 campaign. The Boston Red Sox selected him  with the 40th overall selection after having surgery for torn tendons in his left wrist. He returned for the 2011 College World Series where he helped lead the Gamecocks to their second straight national championship. 2011 John Olerud Award Watch List

The College Baseball Hall of Fame announced today the names of 25 players from across the country featured on the watch list for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award.

South Carolina’s Jackie Bradley Jr. “Likely” Out for the Season

South Carolina junior outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. is likely out for the season with a torn tendon in his left wrist. Bradley was a key component in the Gamecocks run to the 2010 CWS title. He led the team with a .368 batting average while hitting 13 homers and driving in 60 runs. Coming into the 2011 campaign, CBD had rated Bradley as the fifth best player in the country.
