Golden State Athletic Conference – at San Diego: #3 Point Loma Nazarene defeated #11 Fresno Pacific 3-2 (12 innings). SS Tyler Kuehl singled in the winning run for the Sea Lions. Steven Winnick pitched four hitless innings in relief for the win. #24 The Master’s then took Fresno Pacific out of the tournament with a 6-5 win. Point Loma Nazarene and The Master’s play for the championship in Thursday.

Sun Conference – at Fort Myers, FL: #7 Embry-Riddle defeated Savannah College of Art and Design 11-4 for the championship. Joel Blomberg and Austin Goolsby hit home runs for the Eagles. Continue reading

Sooner Athletic Conference: The entire tournament was cancelled due to bad weather. Both #1 Lubbock Christian and #2 Oklahoma City are hosting sectional tournaments next week.

Golden State Athletic Conference – at San Diego: #3 PointLoma Nazarene defeated #24 The Master’s 4-0. Andrew Bovich pitched eight shutout innings for the Sea Lions, and Kurt Steinhauer hit two home runs. #11 Fresno Pacific defeated Biola 15-12. Sooner Athletic Conference – at Shawnee, OK: The start of the tournament was delayed until Tuesday due to wet grounds.

Golden State Athletic Conference – at San Diego: #24 The Master’s defeated Azusa Pacific 6-5 (11 innings). #11 Fresno Pacific plays Biola and #3 Point Loma Nazarene plays Azusa Pacific on Tuesday.

Sun Conference – at Fort Myers, FL: In the second round, #7 Embry-Riddle defeated USC Beaufort 11-6; Brandon Roper-Hubbert went 4-5 with four RBI. Savannah College of Art and Design defeated Warner 5-0. Stephen Shackleford pitched a complete-game shutout for the Bees; he scattered eight hits, and struck out nine. He is 7-1, 2.73 ERA. Embry-Riddle and SCAD meet on Tuesday. Continue reading

NAIA recap for March 12

Kaohi Downing - Point Loma Nazarene

#1 Oklahoma City swept a three-game series against Rogers State, and defeated Calumet. The Stars are now 22-1, but they get their first serious challenge of the season with a series at #17 Wayland Baptist March 15-16.

#2 Lee swept Emmanuel, but trailed Trevecca Nazarene 8-6 after 6 1/2 innings. The Flames closed to 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Junior Rodriguez. The winning run came in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single by Julian Alvarez. The Flames then lost their second game of the season while splitting a double-header with Milligan (Johnson City, TN). The loss was 2-1, and the winning run was scored when Spencer Street was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The Flames are now 23-2. They visit Faulkner March 13-14, and Trevecca Nazarene March 17. Continue reading

2009 Schedules from some Top NAIA teams

Here’s a few that are out:

Lee: Last year’s runner-up starts the season on Feb. 6, hosting Illinois Institute of Technology. They play Auburn-Montgomery April 17-18, and Cumberland April 21. The Flames have picked up two D-I transfers, Tyler Roberts (Memphis) and Trey Burstrom (Tennessee). They have also added Julian Alvarez, who hit .419 and 26 home runs for Bacone last year, and two players drafted in 2006, Jeff Ramirez and Rashad Taylor. Continue reading

The 2008 season starts in Santa Barbara

The first college baseball game scheduled in 2008 is the Cal State San Marcos Cougars at the Westmont Warriors, Wednesday, Jan. 23, at noon in Santa Barbara, CA. Both teams are NAIA members.

CSU San Marcos played the first game of the 2007 season, a 14-8 loss to San Diego Christian. It was the first-ever baseball game for both schools. CSU San Marcos finished their inaugural season with an 18-23 record, with wins over Division II UC San Diego and a good Point Loma Nazarene team. Continue reading
