CAA BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

Mike Rooney, UNC Wilmington

Jr., SS, Cary, N.C./Cary

Rooney batted .556 with six runs scored and five RBI in UNCW’s four games last week. In the Seahawks’ two victories at Old Dominion that clinched a CAA Tournament berth, the junior shortstop went 8-for-10 and scored four times. Rooney is batting .331 for the season.

CAA BASEBALL Co-PITCHER OF THE WEEK:

Rob Kumbatovic, Hofstra

Jr., RHP, Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough

Kumbatovic allowed just four singles and no runs over seven innings as Hofstra blanked William & Mary 3-0 on Saturday. The junior right-hander fanned four and combined with Jeff Guthridge for the Pride’s first shutout since 2007. He earned his team-high fourth win. Continue reading

Jake McAloose, Old Dominion

Jr., 3B, Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne

McAloose batted .778 (7-9) with two doubles, a triple and seven RBI in the final two games of the VCU series after missing the opener due to injury. In Sunday’s 28-9 victory over the Rams, the junior third baseman was 5-for-6 with five runs scored and six RBI. Continue reading

Chris Henderson, George Mason

Jr., C, Marlton, N.J./Cherokee

Henderson batted .640 (16-25) with a homer, five doubles, six RBI and eight runs scored in Mason’s 4-1 week. The junior catcher hit .733 (11-15) in a three-game sweep of Hofstra, while driving in and scoring five. Henderson leads the CAA with a .436 average.

Scott Krieger, George Mason

Sr., OF, Towson, Md./Calvert Hall

Krieger batted .692 (9-13) with a homer, two triples, five runs scored and seven RBI as George Mason won two of three at VCU last weekend. The senior outfielder had at least two hits and two RBI in each game, including a 4-for-5 performance with three RBI on Saturday.

Trevor Knight, James Madison

So., 1B/P, Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne’s-Belfield

Knight excelled with the bat and on the mound in JMU’s five games last week. At the plate, Knight batted .600 (15-25) with a double, two triples, four homers, 12 runs scored and 13 RBI. He drove in at least two runs in all five contests and hit .667 as the Dukes won two of three at VCU. Knight also made his first career pitching start on Sunday and allowed just three hits over six shutout innings while fanning six.

Sr., SS, Kennesaw, Ga./North Cobb Christian

Childers batted .522 (12-23) with two homers, six runs scored and 11 RBI in Georgia State’s six games. The senior had back-to-back three-hit games in Saturday’s doubleheader sweep of Delaware, and tied a school-record by driving in eight runs in the opener.

Bour hit .471 (8-17) and drove in 11 runs in George Mason’s 3-1 week. The junior first baseman was 7-for-13 (.538) with two homers, four runs scored and nine RBI as the Patriots won two of three at William & Mary. For the season, Bour is hitting .326 with 8 HR and 24 RBI. Continue reading

Henderson batted .440 with five doubles, a triple, a homer, four RBI and six runs scored as George Mason went 5-1 last week. He hit .615 (8-13) as the Patriots won two of three at CAA foe ODU, including becoming just the second player in school history to hit for the cycle in Saturday’s 4-2 triumph. Matt Browning, James Madison Jr., OF, Mystic, Conn./Fitch

Browning batted .647 (11-17) with three doubles, a homer, seven runs scored and four RBI in JMU’s five games last week. The junior outfielder had at least two hits in four of the five games and had a 1.000 slugging percentage. For the season, Browning is hitting .368 with 13 RBI. Continue reading

CAA Weekend Roundup for Feb. 20th-22nd

CAA LogoTen of the eleven CAA teams were in action this weekend in  non- conference games. Here’s a quick run down of each team.

-George Mason started the year  4-0 for just the third time in school history. The Patriots competed in the Courtyard by Marriott Baseball Classic in Spartanburg, S.C.  Righty Kevin Crum (1-0 0.00) and second baseman Ryan Soares (.500-1-4) were named the all-tournament team.

-UNC Wilmington started the season off with a three game sweep of Maryland at home.   Outfielder Grayson Evans (.417) had 7 RBI in the series. Continue reading
