CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.  – Senior left-handed pitcher Dan Weigel pitched a complete-game four-hitter and did not allow a run over the final eight innings in leading the Bucknell baseball team to a 5-2 NCAA Regional victory over Liberty Saturday afternoon at Davenport Field. It was the second NCAA postseason victory for the Bison, who equaled the program record for wins in a season as they improved to 31-20-1 on the season. Continue reading

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia baseball team opened the 2014 NCAA Tournament with a 10-1 victory over Bucknell in the Charlottesville Regional Friday (May 30) at Davenport Field.

The Cavaliers (45-13) play the winner of tonight’s Arkansas (38-23) and Liberty (41-16) contest on Saturday (May 31) at 8 p.m. Bucknell (30-20-1) plays the loser of Arkansas/Liberty tomorrow in an elimination game at 2 p.m. Continue reading

2014 NCAA Regional Preview: Charlottesville

No. 1 Virginia
One of the most tested teams in the tournament, Virginia (44-13) has played nine teams that made it to this spring’s field of 64. Ranked between from three to four in the national polls, Brian O’Connor’s team has been impressive, but saw their bid for the ACC title get cut short with a 6-4 loss to FSU on Saturday. Hosting this regional bodes very well for the Cavaliers, as they are 29-3 on their home diamond. Continue reading

2014 Patriot League Preseason Coaches Poll

PatriotLeagueLogo_thumb.jpgCENTER VALLEY, Pa. – For the second straight season, there is a tie at the top of the Patriot League Baseball preseason poll as both Army and Navy shared the top spot in the rankings announced on Thursday.

The Black Knights and Mids were even with 42 points apiece, with Army garnering five first-place votes to three for the Navy. Holy Cross was not far behind with 35 points and a pair of first-place votes, while Bucknell took home 31 points and the remaining two first-place votes followed by Lehigh (17) and Lafayette (13). 2013 Patriot League Preseason Coaches Poll

PatriotLeagueLogo.jpgCENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Army baseball team was picked first in the Patriot League preseason poll which was released on Wednesday. The Black Knights earned five first-place votes and finished tied with Holy Cross atop the preseason listing, which was compiled by a vote of the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.

Army and Holy Cross, whom Army defeated in three games to claim the 2012 Patriot League tournament championship, both accumulated 45 points to tie for first in the preseason poll. The Crusaders collected six first-place votes. Continue reading

Bucknell Rounds out Coaching Staff

LEWISBURG, Pa. – First-year Bucknell baseball head coach Scott Heather was promoted this past summer after eight years as an assistant with the Bison. On Friday, he announced the remainder of his coaching staff. Two-year assistant Jason Neitz was elevated to the top assistant position, while Patrick Rose, a four-year letterwinner on the baseball team at Cal Santa Barbara, and former Bucknell player B.J. Bucknell names Scott Heather as Head Coach

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Following a comprehensive national search, Bucknell director of athletics and recreation John Hardt announced on Monday that Scott Heather will succeed the retiring Gene Depew as the head coach of the Bison baseball program. Heather has spent the last eight years as an assistant coach at Bucknell, helping the Bison to a pair of Patriot League Tournament titles and NCAA appearances. Continue reading
