The MLB Signing Deadline is fast approaching as all teams have until midnight on August 15th to sign their prospects or they will head to college. Here is the latest news and notes from around the country.
Bubba Starling’s career with the Nebraska Cornhuskers on the football field is on hold right now according to Huskers head football coach Bo Pelini in the Omaha-World Herald. Starling was selected by Kansas City Royals with the fifth overall pick and is being advised by Scott Boras. If he does not sign with the Royals, Starling will get back on the practice field with the Nebraska football program and will not be able to sign with a MLB team until the 2014 MLB Draft. Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reported that Red Sox first round pick and 26th overall selection Blake Swihart took batting practice on Thursday afternoon at Fenway Park. Swihart is currently committed to Texas where he will play for Augie Garrido. If I had to guess right now, I would expect the Red Sox to sign Swihart for over the $1.2 million due to him with the slotting system. Read the rest of this entry »
The Sky is the Limit for Bubba Starling
Bubba Starling is considered the best high school player in the country according to Baseball America. There is a problem though as Bubba has committed to the University of Nebraska where he is expected to be compete for the starting quarterback position in the fall of 2011. Football people him the next Tim Tebow while baseball people say he could be the next Josh Hamilton.

Frankie Pilere of Fanhouse.com continues to update his top prospects for the 2011 MLB Draft. He checks in today with his top 115 players that he believes has top four round talent. This is his list of player he has seen with his own eyes so there will be additions to the list in the coming months. He has put out two previous updates from July 3rd (
