2011 Brooks Wallace Award Watch List down to 10

As teams look toward Super Regional play, the list of players in the running for the Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award has been narrowed to 10.

USA Baseball Announces 30 Semifinalists for 2011 Golden Spikes Award

NCBWA Names Pro-Line Athletic National Players of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)­ released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending April 10 today. Clemson junior shortstop Brad Miller and Liberty senior outfielder Doug Bream were named National Co-Hitters of the Week, while Northern Illinois senior right-hander Jeremy Gonzales was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season. Continue reading

Top 100 Countdown: 58. Brad Miller (Clemson)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 58 with Clemson shortstop Brad Miller. He is from Windermere Florida and attended from Olympia High School. As a junior in high school, he hit .420 with a .560 on-base percentage, six homers, and 31 RBIs. He was honored as first-team All-Central Florida for his seasons. Before the 2008 MLB Draft, he was ranked the 17th best prospect in the state of Florida by Perfect Game. Miller was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 39th round before deciding to attend Clemson. Team USA Advances to Semifinals with 11-0 Victory over China

RyanWrightLouisville Tokyo, Japan – Team USA scored a combined 10 runs in the third and fourth innings and cruised to an 11-0, seven inning quarterfinal win over China Tuesday afternoon at the V FISU World University Championships inside Yokohama Stadium. With the win, USA (15-2) advances to the semi-finals and will play the winner of Chinese Taipei/Japan on Thursday with a scheduled start time yet to be determined.

Team USA defeats Chinese Taipei in Extra Innings

NickRamirezCalStateFullerton Tokyo, Japan – Nick Ramirez’ (Cal State Fullerton) single in the 11th inning scored Ryan Wright (Louisville) from second base giving USA a thrilling 8-7 win over Chinese Taipei in pool play Sunday night at Meiji Jingu Stadium.

The game took two tie-break extra-innings to produce a winner, where both squads scored a run in the 10th before USA won the game in the bottom of the 11th. The International Baseball Federation’s (IBAF) tie-break rule, which was implanted in July of 2008, starts in the 10th stanza and each inning needed thereafter, base runners are placed on first and second with no outs.

Team USA defeats Chinese Taipei 9-1

Taipei, Taiwan – Jackie Bradley, Jr. (South Carolina), Brad Miller (Clemson) and Ryan Wright (Louisville) each collected three hits and helped Team USA to a 9-1 win and a split of the four-game series with Chinese-Taipei Wednesday at Hsinchuang Field.

Bradley, Jr. and Wright joined Alex Dickerson with a team-best two RBI, while Wright smacked his first home run of the summer on a solo shot down the left field line in the third inning.

Team USA loses to Chinese Taipei 3-1
