Bowling Green opens Fall Practice

Though February and the start of the college baseball season is still months away, the Bowling Green State University baseball team and head coach Danny Schmitz began the preparations for defending the Mid-American Conference Regular-Season title on Monday when they opened up fall workouts. Coach Schmitz, now entering his 19th season at the helm of the Brown and Orange, welcomed 33 players to camp, including 23 players that saw playing time in 2008, two redshirts, two walk-ons and six newcomers.

Sophomore Sheldon McDonald threw eight shutout innings of five-hit, nine-strikeout ball and did not walk a batter, as he led the Huskies to a 5-0 win over the Western Michigan Broncos on Wednesday afternoon at IMG Academies in BRadenton, Fla. Western Michigan entered the game having scored at least 15 runs in three of its last five games, but McDonald kept the Bronco bats silent all afternoon. Bowling Green’s 2008 Schedule is out

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Twenty-one home games at Warren E. Steller Field, including three against four-time defending Mid-American Conference champion and NCAA participant Kent State, highlight the 2008 Bowling Green State University baseball schedule announced Thursday by head coach Danny Schmitz. The BG schedule, which will begin on Feb. 22 and run through the 17th of May, will include 58 total regular season games with 23 of those contests coming against teams that sported winning records in 2007, including four tilts with NCAA qualifiers.
