Stony Brook Seeks To Repeat In America East Tournament
Boasting a program best 41 wins this season, Stony Brook will look to defend their America East Baseball Championship as play in the conference tournament begins late Wednesday morning.
The tournament will open with match ups that look quite familiar to the teams involved, as they are all rematches of last weekends season ending series. Regular season champion Stony Brook (41-10 overall, 22-2 America East) will face fourth seeded Albany (19-29, 11-11) at 3pm. The Seawolves swept the Great Danes in their four game series this past weekend, amassing 29 runs and holding Albany to a mere eight. America East Pitcher of the Year Nick Tropeano carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning in the series’ first game, and has a program record 11 wins this season. 2011 America East Preseason Coaches Poll

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.— The Stony Brook Seawolves are the unanimous picks to win the 2011 America East Baseball Championship according to the preseason coaches’ poll and as voted on by all six of the league’s head coaches. After winning their second tournament title in three years in 2010, the Seawolves received all five possible first-place votes as head coaches were not permitted to vote for their own teams. 2010 MLB Rule 5 Draft Results
Major League Baseball held the Rule 5 Draft yesterday during the Winter Meetings. If a player is selected in the Rule 5 draft, they need to be placed on a MLB roster for the next season and if they are put in the minor leagues, they will go back to the previous squad. The system was put into place to eliminate the ability for squads to stockpile young players in their system when other squads would have that player in the major leagues. NECBL Playoffs Recap for August 4th
The final games of the opening round of the NECBL Playoffs took place on Wednesday night with North Shore holding off a late Sanford rally to win their series two games to one. Danbury used a great start from Sean Hagan to defeat the Danbury Westerners 2-0 while the North Adams SteepleCats outhit the Keene Swamp Bats 10-5. North Shore Navigators will take on Newport in the Eastern Division final while North Adams will play the Danbury Westerners.

#4 LSU 13 Binghamton 7
BATON ROUGE, La. – A seven-run eighth inning by LSU erased a 7-6 deficit and powered the fourth-ranked Tigers to a 13-7 win over Binghamton Wednesday night in Alex Box Stadium.
The Tigers (21-3) captured their seventh straight victory and their 17th-straight regular-season win over a non-conference opponent dating back to last season. Binghamton dropped to 6-11 with the loss.
Saturday Thoughts
Here are my thoughts from action on the college baseball diamonds for Saturday March 6th.
The Binghamton Bearcats picked up a shocking win on Friday night over the Tennessee Volunteers but on Saturday afternoon, the struggles continued. Kennesaw State ended up grabbing a 4-2 victory over the Volunteers behind a strong pitching performances from Josh Carr and J.B. Johnson
