FULLERTON, Calif. – Returning to the field after a record-breaking season in 2013, Cal State Fullerton has released its 2014 schedule, highlighted by eight weekend series at Goodwin Field.

UCI opens the docket with eight straight home games, kicking off the year against Fresno State, Feb. 14-16. After hosting Western Athletic Conference champion, CSU Bakersfield, the Anteaters compete in the Long Beach State Tournament and will host Wright State (Feb. 21), NCAA regional team, Arizona State (Feb. 22), and the Dirtbags (Feb. 23) at Anteater Ballpark. The NECBL held their All-Star game on Sunday evening with the Eastern Division winning a 2-1 contest as each pitcher tossed an inning while most batters got two at-bats. Here are some of the players that stuck out for me on the day. I usually can’t make a good read on hitters by seeing them only one or two times so this usually will focus on the pitchers. NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Greg Moore, recently named by Baseball America as one of the Top 10 Assistant Coaches in College Baseball, has been hired as the head coach at Cal State Northridge, CSUN Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Brandon E. Martin announced today. Moore spent the past three seasons as the associate head coach at the University of San Francisco, where he oversaw pitching, admissions, community service and summer placement. Continue reading
Fullerton Super Regional:
UCLA (42-17) vs. Cal State Fullerton (51-8)
For the fourth time in the last seven years, UCLA and Cal State Fullerton will tangle in the postseason. The opportunity to represent Southern California baseball in Omaha is on the line as the winner will receive a berth to the College World Series.
That was the also the case last time these teams met in the postseason. UCLA rallied to win the final two games of the series after being down to their final out in the second game. But Tyler Rahmatulla hit a two-run homer to keep the Bruins alive and they eventually punched their ticket to Omaha at the expense of the Titans (though Rahmatulla missed the College World Series after breaking his wrist in the celebratory dogpile). The previous two times it had been Fullerton that did the celebrating, defeating UCLA in 2007 and 2008. Continue reading
Colorado Springs, Colo. (NCBWA) — Five of college baseball’s top relief specialists have been selected as finalists for the ninth annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, the NCBWA announced Wednesday.
This year’s finalists include NCAA saves leader Tyler Rogers of Austin Peay along with David Berg of UCLA, Jonathan Holder of Mississippi State, Michael Lorenzen of Cal State Fullerton, and Jimmie Sherfy of Oregon. Continue reading

Cal State Fullerton 6, Arizona State 1
Thomas Eshelman followed suit and dominated on the mound for Cal State Fullerton as the Titans (51-8) punched their ticket to the Super Regionals with a 6-1 victory over Arizona State Sunday evening at Goodwin Field.
Eshelman just did what Grahamm Wiest and Justin Garza did ahead of him on Friday and Saturday, securing a three-game sweep of the Fullerton (CA) Regional. The Titans advance to the Sweet 16 of college baseball, the Super Regionals. They will host UCLA next weekend beginning Friday at 4 p.m. with games scheduled Saturday at 7 p.m. and, if necessary, Sunday at 7 p.m. as well. Continue reading
