2011 CBD Season Preview: Big Ten

Heading into the 2010 campaign, everyone was talking about the Ohio State Buckeyes being the class of the Big Ten but they would be talking about the Gophers instead. The Big Ten ended up seeing the first place Minnesota Gophers (15-9) and last place Penn State Nittany Lions (9-15) separated by a measly six games. Michigan ended up finishing second with a 14-10 mark while Iowa and Northwestern finished at 13-11 in a tie for third place. Purdue and Indiana were also tied with a 12-12 mark for fifth place. Michigan State and Ohio State tied for seventh place with a record of 11-13 and Illinois finished in ninth with a 10-14 mark while Penn State rounded out the standings with their 9-15 record. Top 100 Countdown: 10. Alex Dickerson (Indiana)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 10 in our countdown with Indiana junior outfielder/first baseman Alex Dickerson. He is from Poway, California, where he attended Poway High School. As a senior, he hit .455 with 12 doubles, six triples, eight home runs, 45 RBI and 40 runs while slugging .851, with a .522 on-base percentage and perfect 7-for-7 on the basepaths. He was selected in the 48th round of the 2008 MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals but decided to head to Indiana to continue his baseball career. Continue reading


2011 Dairy Queen Classic moved to Arizona

The Dairy Queen Classic featuring Minnesota, South Alabama, Oklahoma State, and Washington State will be moved to Tucson, Arizona according to Washington State head coach Donnie Marbut. The tournament had to be moved to Arizona after the Metrodome collapsed on December 12th after a heavy snowstorm. Continue reading


2010 NCAA Baseball Attendance Leaders

The NCAA released their 2010 NCAA Baseball Attendance Figures which is led by four SEC schools. The LSU Tigers lead the pack with an average of 10,673 fans in 37 games. Arkansas comes in second with 7,704 fans while Ole Miss comes in third with 6,759 fans edging out fourth place South Carolina by an average of one fan. CBD Interview with Rich Maloney (Michigan)

College Baseball Daily continues our series of interviews with coaches from across the country today with Michigan Head Coach Rich Maloney. He is entering his ninth season in charge of the Wolverines baseball program. He has led them to four NCAA Tournament appearances (2005, ’06, ’07, ’08) while hosting a regional during the 2008 postseason. Last season, the team went 35-22 while finishing in second place in the Big Ten with a 14-10 record. Continue reading


The Sky is the Limit for Bubba Starling

Bubba Starling is considered the best high school player in the country according to Baseball America. There is a problem though as Bubba has committed to the University of Nebraska where he is expected to be compete for the starting quarterback position in the fall of 2011. Football people him the next Tim Tebow while baseball people say he could be the next Josh Hamilton.

Metrodome Collapse Causing Trouble in Baseball

Metrodome PhotoAs nearly everybody saw last weekend, the Metrodome roof collapsed from the weight of snow which caused the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings to move their last two home games to other sites. The Metrodome is the home to over 100 college baseball games during the early part of the season with some days featuring 24 straight hours of baseball.

Northwestern releases 2011 Schedule

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern head baseball coach Paul Stevens has announced the team’s 2011 schedule released today (Dec. 17). The Wildcats open their slate Feb. 18 at the Red Raider Classic in Lubbock, Texas.

NU ventures to Winston-Salem, N.C., the following weekend to participate in a tournament hosted by Wake Forest before traveling to Evansville, Ind., March 4-6. Continue reading
