2015 Big 10 Preseason Coaches Poll

big10logoRosemont, Ill. – Maryland was voted the preseason favorite to claim the 2015 Big Ten Baseball Championship as voted on by the conference coaches and announced on Wednesday. The coaches voted on the top six teams and also selected three student-athletes from their own squads to a Players to Watch list. The Terrapins were followed in the preseason poll by Nebraska in second place, No. 3 Illinois, Indiana in fourth place, No. 5 Michigan and Ohio State in sixth place.

Maryland is coming off its first Super Regional appearance in program history and returns All-American infielder Brandon Lowe and pitcher Mike Shawaryn. Lowe batted .348 last season and tied for the team lead in RBI (42). Shawaryn set the program record with 11 wins last season. Kevin Mooney, who notched a program record 13 saves in 2014, also returns for the Terrapins. Lowe, Mooney and Shawaryn were named Maryland’s Players to Watch. Purdue to raise money for Breast Cancer


PurdueBreastCancerWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue intercollegiate athletics in conjunction with DS Wood is set to hold a “Take A Swing at Breast Cancer Home Run Derby” fundraiser all day Friday of the upcoming Homecoming Weekend on campus.

From 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday, Purdue baseball will open Lambert Field for participants to help raise money for the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority for breast cancer education and awareness. October is breast cancer awareness month.

Indiana Announces 2011 Baseball Schedule


TracySmithIndianaBLOOMINGTON, Ind. ­ The Indiana baseball team will play at least nine games against teams that played in the 2010 NCAA Tournament, beginning with three high-level tournaments in the season¹s first three weeks, head coach Tracy Smith announced today. The Hoosiers, who finished over .500 and made the Big Ten Tournament for the third straight season in 2010, will open the 2011 slate with tournaments at Coastal Carolina, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Tennessee.

Michigan Baseball Announces 2011 Schedule


ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan baseball program and head coach Rich Maloney announced on Tuesday (Oct. 12) the 2011 schedule, which features games against at least four teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament, a mid-week home series against Texas tech, and the full 27-game Big Ten slate.

Iowa’s Duane Banks Field Getting New Surface


DuaneBanksFieldIOWA CITY, Iowa – – Carver-Hawkeye Arena isn’t the only facility on Hawkins Drive in Iowa City getting a facelift. After years of playing on the same surface, Duane Banks Field and the Iowa baseball program is in the process of getting a new field.

For the first time since the field was laid down three decades ago, the entire playing surface is being refurbished. According to Head Coach Jack Dahm, about 10-12 years ago the infield was re-sodded and a magic mix dirt was installed. But, as far as revamping the entire field, this is the first time the field has undergone a major facelift.

Indiana Baseball to raise money for ALS


TracySmithBLOOMINGTON, Ind. ¬- Head Coach Tracy Smith and the Indiana baseball team will take part in the Phi Delta Theta Hoosier Derby for ALS on Sunday, Oct. 10. The event will serve as a fundraiser to support research for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
