NCAA declares Miami catcher Peter O’Brien Eligible for 2012 Season

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Senior catcher Peter O’Brien has been approved by the NCAA to compete for the Hurricanes during the upcoming 2012 baseball season.

Miami (FL) opens up Fall Practice

The Miami (FL) baseball program opened up fall practice on Tuesday with both Peter O’Brien and Erik Erickson getting the most attention.

O’Brien spent his first three years of college as a member of the Bethune-Cookman program. Entering last season, O’Brien was named to the CBD Top 100 countdown at 18. After the 2010 season, the Colorado Rockies selected him in the third round but didn’t sign. He also had some issues at home so he decided to transfer to Miami (FL) and appeal to the NCAA for immediate eligibility. Jason Beverlin named Head Coach at Bethune-Cookman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman University Athletic Director Lynn W. Thompson announced today, July 26, that an agreement in principal has been reached with Jason Beverlin to become the Wildcats’ new Head Baseball Coach.

Beverlin, 37, was the pitching coach at the University of Tennessee and played professionally with the Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers after being selected by the Oakland A’s in the fourth round of the 1994 Major League Draft. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – In a span of three-consecutive pitches in the seventh inning, No. 2 UCF scored five runs and eventually plated 13 runs in the final three innings to defeat No. 4 Bethune-Cookman, 16-5, in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional Saturday. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 3 seeded University of Alabama baseball team posted a 5-3 win over the No. 2 seeded Central Florida Knights in the opening game of the Tallahassee Regional from Dick Howser Stadium on Friday afternoon.
