2013 Ohio Valley Preseason Coaches Poll

OhioValleyConferenceBRENTWOOD, Tenn. — After winning the Ohio Valley Conference regular season and tournament championships each of the past two years, Austin Peay has been tabbed the 2013 preseason favorite for the 11-team league in a vote of OVC head baseball coaches and sports information directors. In additional voting APSU junior second baseman Jordan Hankins and Tennessee Tech junior first baseman Zach Stephens were named OVC Preseason Co-Players of the Year while Belmont senior lefty Chase Brookshire was tabbed OVC Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Belmont releases 2013 Schedule

NASHVILLE, Tenn.—The Belmont baseball team will play 16 of its first 21 games at home, at E.S. Rose Park, for the 2013 season. CBD Quick Hits for Feb. 18th

Here are some of my quick thoughts from games played on February 18th.

One of the things heading into the weekend that I wanted to see was how dominate Marcus Stroman would be with the Duke Blue Devils as a starting pitcher. He was far from dominant in his first start of the year on Saturday, lasting only five innings giving up three runs on four hits and six walks against the Texas Longhorns. I still believe he will be a great reliever but doesn’t have the type of stuff to be a starting pitcher but that is just my opinion. The Blue Devils ended up losing that game 4-0 in seven innings before dropping the nightcap 5-3. Read the rest of this entry »

Big 12 Quick Hits 2/18

Baylor vs. Oral Roberts (Postponed)

  • Doubleheader scheduled for tomorrow, starting at 12:05 PM.

Kansas 3 Bowling Green 1 (Game 1)

  • Kansas took the lead in the seventh on a two-run single from LF Tucker Tharp.
  • SS Kevin Kuntz led the Jayhawks with two hits. Kansas had six hits total.
  • Freshman LHP Wes Benjamin picked up the win in his first career start, going seven innings and allowing only one run on five hits. Benjamin walked one and struck out three.
  • Tanner Poppe picked up his first save of the season, allowing a hit and striking out a batter in the ninth. Read the rest of this entry »

The Hatters’ Kurt Schluter earned the Preseason Pitcher of the Year honor, while the Dolphins’ Adam Brett Walker received Player of the Year recognition for the upcoming season. Belmont releases 2012 Schedule

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont baseball team and Head Coach Dave Jarvis released the Bruins’ 2012 spring schedule on Friday afternoon.  In an effort to defend its Atlantic Sun Conference championship, return to the NCAA Regional, and reach its first ever College World Series, BU has set up a difficult non-conference schedule to start the season. NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont baseball team (38-25) defeated Troy (43-19) by a score of 5-2 to advance to the NCAA Regional Championship against Vanderbilt on Sunday afternoon.  The Bruins eliminated the Trojans and will have to top the Commodores twice in order to advance to a Super Regional next weekend.  The first contest is beginning at 7:35 p.m. CT at Vandy’s Hawkins Field. NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont baseball team (37-25) eliminated Oklahoma State (35-25) from the Nashville Regional with a 3-2 victory on Saturday afternoon.  It marks the first ever win for a Belmont University team in any sport in the NCAA Tournament.  Sophomore Chase Brookshire (Chattanooga, Tenn.) allowed just two hits and one earned run in eight innings pitched. Belmont wins First NCAA Game in School History

Game one was a doozy in 95 degree weather at Hawkins Field as the Belmont Bruins won their first ever NCAA tournament game while sending Oklahoma State back to Stillwater. In the first elimination game of the Nashville Regional, the Bruins rode a brilliant performance by sophomore lefty Chase Brookshire, who allowed just two hits and a walk in eight plus innings.
