Baylor releases 2014 Schedule

CoachSmithBaylorWACO, Texas – Baylor baseball announced its 2014 schedule on Tuesday, featuring 54 games and 30 at home. The Bears will face nine 2013 NCAA Tournament participants and its 24 opponents posted a combined 811-586-1 (.580) record last season.

The highly-competitive Baylor 2014 slate also features games against nine conference champions, three NCAA Super Regional participants and only four teams that finished with a record below .500 in 2013. Continue reading

CBD Column: Pac-12 Weekend Preview

The No. 6 ranked Bruins will travel to Waco, Texas to take on the Baylor Bears this weekend. It will be UCLA’s first visit to Baylor in program history. UCLA (2-1) is coming off a series victory against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The Bruins dropped the opener 6-2 in 10 innings Friday night, but rallied on Saturday by defeating the Gophers 14-0. On Sunday, sophomore starter Grant Watson kept the Gophers quiet by throwing six scoreless innings and tallying a career high eight strikeouts. Baylor (1-3) is coming off a win at home Tuesday against Texas State. The Bears were swept on the road at UC Irvine last weekend. Continue reading


CBD Visit: Big Inning Propels Irvine Over Baylor, 6-4


After the first two batters of the game struck out looking, Baylor got on the board with a two-out RBI double by senior third baseman Cal Towey. The Bears defense responded by shutting down the Anteaters in order in their half of the first. After both teams went down in order in the second, Irvine exploded in the third inning giving them all the runs they would need.

Irvine threatened in the sixth but left the bases loaded after plating one more run. Baylor’s Nathan Orf belted a three-run home run in the seventh to tighten the score 6-4. In the bottom half of the frame, an Irvine threat was wiped out by a 6-4-3 double play. Baylor tried to rally in the ninth, getting the tying run on first after UC Irvine closer Race Parmenter allowed a single and a walk. But Parmenter got Nathan Orf to ground out to end the game. 2013 Big 12 Preseason Coaches Poll

OklahomaOmaha.jpgOklahoma has been selected as the preseason favorite to win the 2013 Big 12 baseball regular season. In a vote by the league’s head coaches, the Sooners earned six first-place votes, totaling 62 points. League newcomer TCU tallied the remaining three first-place votes and 55 points for the second place spot.
This marks the second time the Sooners have been tabbed to win the Conference’s regular season title. In 2011, OU also received six first-place votes. Oklahoma has never claimed a Big 12 title and has won the postseason crown on just one occasion – at the inaugural event in 1997. Continue reading


Baylor releases 2013 Schedule

WACO, Texas – Thirty home games at Baylor Ballpark and three games at the Houston College Classic at Minute Maid Park highlight the 2013 Baylor baseball schedule announced Tuesday by head coach Steve Smith.

The 53-game regular season slate includes a road series against UC Irvine to open the season, as well as 17 games against NCAA Tournament teams from 2012. Continue reading


Baylor names Adam Revelette Director of Baseball Operations

WACO, Texas – Baylor head coach Steve Smith announced the addition of Adam Revelette to his staff as director of baseball operations on Thursday.

Revelette will handle all practice and game video needs for coaches, coordinate team and recruiting travel, manage equipment and assist with on-campus recruiting visits, compliance and student-athlete services. In addition, Revelette will have a leadership role in the Baylor Baseball Academy. Continue reading


Baylor promotes Steve Johnigan to Associate Head Coach

WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball assistant coach Steve Johnigan has been promoted to associate head coach, as announced by head coach Steve Smith on Tuesday.

Johnigan has been on Smith’s staff for 17 seasons as an assistant coach. He is the Bears’ primary hitting coach, coordinates the Bears’ offense and baserunning, serves as co-recruiting coordinator and coaches infielders and catchers. Continue reading
