2012 Baseball America Top Prospects for Summer Leagues

DURHAM, N.C.–The Southeastern Conference once again dominated Baseball America’s top prospects lists for 20 college summer leagues and Team USA, which have been released at BaseballAmerica.com. The SEC leads all conferences with 31 players on the lists, followed by the Pacific-12 (24 players), the Atlantic Coast (16) and the Big 12 (13). The ACC leads all conferences with four players ranking as the No. 1 prospects in their respective leagues. Continue reading

South Carolina’s Chad Holbrook named the 2011 ABCA/Baseball America Assistant Coach of the Year

Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina associate head baseball coach Chad Holbrook has been named the 2011 American Baseball Coaches Association/Baseball America Assistant Coach of the Year. Now in his fourth season as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for the baseball program, Holbrook serves as hitting instructor, oversees the Gamecock offense, including base running and the short game, and is the third base coach. Baseball America releases 2011-2012 Recruiting Class Rankings

Baseball America has released their 2011-2012 Recruiting Class rankings for the class that will be eligible for the start of the 2012 season. Leading the pack is the Vanderbilt Commodores which got a first round pick in Tyler Beede among other talented players to Nashville. The rest of the top five is filled out by Texas, Southern Miss, NC State, and Ole Miss.

DURHAM, N.C.–The Southeastern Conference, which has produced college baseball’s last three national champions, dominated Baseball America’s top prospects lists for 20 college summer leagues and Team USA, which have been released at BaseballAmerica.com. The SEC leads all conferences with 24 players on the lists, followed by the Pacific-12 (22 players), the Big 12 (18 players) and the Atlantic Coast (17). 2011 Baseball America Preseason Poll

Here is Baseball America’s 2011 Preseason Poll. The Florida Gators come in at number 1 after finishing last season with a 47-17 record and a 2010 ranking of seventh. UCLA who finished last season as the CWS runner-up comes in at number two with CWS semifinalist TCU coming in at number 3. Vanderbilt and Oklahoma round out the Top 5 respectively at 4th and 5th. Top 100 Countdown: 40. Carson Smith (Texas State)

CarsonSmithActionCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 40 with Texas State’s Carson Smith. He is a 6-5 215 pound right handed pitcher from Midland Texas where he attended Midland Christian High School. As a senior in 2008, he was named District MVP and 1st team All-State. He was also named TAPPS 5A 2nd Team All-District in 2007 as a junior.

Vanderbilt’s Derek Johnson named ABCA Assistant Coach of the Year

Vanderbilt Associate Head Coach/Pitching Coach Derek Johnson has been named the ABCA/Baseball America Assistant Coach of the Year.

The honor comes on the heels of one of the Commodores most successful seasons in school history. Vanderbilt was one win away from their first trip to the College World Series and appeared in the school’s second-ever Super Regional, eventually losing to Florida State. The team’s pitchers helped guide the Dores to 46 wins, second-most in school history, while posting the second-best team ERA (3.69) in the rugged Southeastern Conference. Continue reading

Baseball America releases Top 25 Recruiting Classes

StanfordBaseballBaseball America has released their Top 25 Recruiting Classes for the incoming 2010-2011 freshmen class. Leading the way is the Stanford Cardinal with LSU coming in at number 2. CWS finalist UCLA comes in at number 3 with San Diego and Oregon rounding out the top five.  These polls are always subjective as Collegiate Baseball had Stanford coming in 11th in their top 40 rankings that came out at the end of September. 2010 Baseball America Top Prospects for Summer Leagues and Team USA

BaseballAmericaCover DURHAM, N.C.–The Pacific-10 Conference dominated Baseball America’s top prospects lists for 18 summer college leagues and Team USA, which have been posted at BaseballAmerica.com. The Pac-10 leads all conferences with 30 players on the lists and six players ranking as the No. 1 prospects in their respective leagues.
