Auburn releases 2012 Schedule

Coming off of a second consecutive SEC Tournament appearance, the Auburn baseball team will play a total of 32 games against teams that advanced to the 2011 NCAA Tournament during the upcoming season as head coach John Pawlowski released the 2012 schedule on Monday. Gabe Gross And Wes Gilmer Join Auburn Baseball For 2012 Season

Seven year Major League Baseball veteran and 2000 All-America outfielder Gabe Gross and four-year letter winner and 2011 team captain Wes Gilmer will be undergraduate assistant coaches for the 2012 Auburn baseball season, Auburn Head Coach John Pawlowski has announced. The SEC Tournament starts today in Hoover, Alabama. The town of Hoover really does this thing right—each team stays in the Wynfrey Hotel, which is connected to the Riverchase Galleria Mall. We have easy access to food, a mall and a pool. We also get police escorts to and from each game at Regions Park, the Birmingham Barons AA stadium. SEC Announces 2011 Baseball Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Florida catcher Mike Zunino was selected 2011 SEC Baseball Player of the Year, Grayson Garvin of Vanderbilt was named SEC Pitcher of the Year and Vanderbilt outfielder Tony Kemp was named SEC Freshman of the Year by a vote of the league’s 12 head baseball coaches. The coaches also tabbed South Carolina skipper Ray Tanner SEC Coach of the Year. James McCann of Arkansas was named SEC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – SEC CHAMPS!!! Second ranked South Carolina (44-12, 22-8 SEC) broke out of the gates with an early two-run lead and behind solid work from starter Colby Holmes and three relievers the Gamecocks defeated Alabama (32-24, 14-16) 3-2 on Saturday afternoon to claim at least a share of the SEC Championship. It is the school’s third SEC Championship in baseball and the first since the 2002 regular season. Carolina also claims at least a share of the SEC Eastern Division title, the school’s fifth (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2011). South Carolina heads to Hoover, Ala. for the SEC Tournament as the No. 1 seed and will face the No. 8 seed Auburn at 5:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday May 25 at Regions Park. Tuscaloosa, Ala. – Christian Walker drove in three runs and Peter Mooney, Scott Wingo and Evan Marzilli were a combined 9-for-14 with four runs scored and a pair of RBI as second ranked South Carolina bounced back with a 6-3 win over Alabama on Friday evening in SEC baseball action. Carolina is 43-12 and 21-8 in the SEC, tied for first place with Florida and Vanderbilt going into the final day of action in league play. Alabama is 32-23 and 14-15 in the SEC. The rubber game of the series is set for 1 p.m. ET and will be televised live on CSS as well as on Time Warner Cable channel 506 in Columbia. It can also be heard on the Gamecock Radio Network.
