Big 12 Quick Hits 2/18

Baylor vs. Oral Roberts (Postponed)

  • Doubleheader scheduled for tomorrow, starting at 12:05 PM.

Kansas 3 Bowling Green 1 (Game 1)

  • Kansas took the lead in the seventh on a two-run single from LF Tucker Tharp.
  • SS Kevin Kuntz led the Jayhawks with two hits. Kansas had six hits total.
  • Freshman LHP Wes Benjamin picked up the win in his first career start, going seven innings and allowing only one run on five hits. Benjamin walked one and struck out three.

Big 12 Notes 2/17

BAYLOR 3, ORAL ROBERTS 2

  • Baylor scored a pair in the 8th off a Josh Ludy RBI single and Michael Howard RBI walk.
  • Baylor’s 1-4 hitters were 6-12, with four walks, three runs, and two RBI. The remaining hitters were 0-16 with a pair of walks and an RBI.
  • 1B Max Muncy was 2-2 with two walks and a run.
  • RHP Josh Turley only last 4.2 innings, but he only gave up five hits and allowed a pair of unearned runs. Trent Blank was excellent in relief, picking up the victory with 3.1 innings of work, allowing one hit and a pair of walks. Dillon Newman picked up the save with a perfect ninth. 2012 CBD Season Preview: SEC

2011 was a year of confirmation for the SEC. Not only did South Carolina claim its second national championship in as many years, but SEC teams occupied the top three national rankings for the majority of the season. Furthermore, all three of those teams made the trip to Omaha, while seven teams from the SEC made the NCAA tournament—both tallies being the most of any conference in college baseball. ORLANDO, Fla. LITTLE ROCK – A two-out rally in the top of the third helped the Silver Team claim a 4-3 win in the opener of the UALR Fall World Series Tuesday evening at Gary Hogan Field. CBD Visit: Auburn opens up Fall Practice

The Auburn University baseball team began their first fall season practices on Wednesday, September 21st, with much anticipation and excitement for their future. After coming off a second straight SEC Tournament appearance in the 2011 season, the Tigers lost most of their starters to the MLB first-year player draft. While some may consider this a devastating loss for the team, the Tigers managed to recruit 17 newcomers–12 incoming freshman and 5 transfers–to pick up the slack.
