Army Releases 2012 Schedule

WEST POINT, N.Y. –
Army baseball head coach Joe Sottolano released the Black Knights’ 2012 schedule this week. The rigorous slate features 19 home games at Doubleday Field, including three Patriot League series.

Army will open its season the third weekend of February (17-19) as the Black Knights travel to High Point, N.C., to face High Point in a three-game series. The team will then make the trek to Washington, D.C., for a three-game set versus George Washington the following weekend (Feb. 25-26).

Army’s Cole White Impressing in Minors

Each professional baseball player has a unique journey to explain their path to the minor leagues. For First Lieutenant Cole White, his path took him through the U.S. Military Academy.

Following the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, White decided as a high school junior that he was going to serve his country after graduation. With an appointment to West Point in hand, White cemented his name in the Black Knights’ record book and was eventually drafted by the Pirates in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft. Continue reading

2011 John Olerud Award Watch List

Ten players are still competing for the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award.

2011 Patriot League Semifinals Preview

Center Valley, Pa. — After the most competitive regular-season race in League history, four teams will open up postseason play with semifinal series of the Patriot League Baseball Tournament this weekend.

The matchups pit No. 4 Bucknell at No. 1 Navy and No. 3 Lafayette at No. 2 Army, with each three-game series featuring a doubleheader on Saturday and decisive final game, if necessary, on Sunday afternoon. The winners move on to the Patriot League Championship series at the site of the higher seed on May 23-24 or 24-25. Continue reading

2011 All-Patriot League Teams and Major Awards Announced

Miller and Bucknell junior starting pitcher Ryan Ebner had never received an All-Patriot League selection coming into the season, but each student-athlete stood out during the 2011 campaign to take home the Patriot League Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Year honors, respectively, as the sport’s major awards and All-Patriot League teams were announced on Tuesday. NCBWA Names Pro-Liine Athletic National Players of the Week (May 3rd)

MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)­ released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending May 1, today. Utah junior shortstop James Brooks and Army senior shortstop Clint Moore were named Co-National Hitters of the Week, while Oregon State redshirt junior left-hander Josh Osich was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season. Continue reading

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Mike McGee has spent the past few weeks tuning up his bat in the cage with assistant coach Mike Martin, Jr. The senior All-American’s performance in Saturday’s 16-3 rout of Hoftrsa left little doubt that he’s hitting on all cylinders.

McGee matched a career-high with six RBI on a 3-for-4 performance, highlighted by his fourth inning grand slam; his first home run of the season. Continue reading
