Army releases 2014 Schedule

ArmyBaseballWEST POINT, N.Y. – Fifty-two regular season games, including 21 at Doubleday Field at Johnson Stadium, highlight the 2014 Army baseball schedule, announced today by interim head coach Matt Reid.

The Black Knights won the 2013 Patriot League Championship Series and advanced to the NCAA Tournament and will begin their quest for another league title and national appearance on February 14 against William and Mary. Continue reading

Army, Navy, and Air Force Baseball Forced to Shutdown

ArmyBaseball The Army, Navy, and Air Force baseball programs have been forced to stop fall competitions with the federal government shutting down all intercollegiate activities at the service academies. This weekend’s football games between Navy and Air Force and the Army at Boston College are both unlikely to happen unless the government shutdown is resolved in the very near future.

Update #1: College Baseball Daily has learned that Joe Sottolano was let go for “sexual misconduct” according to several sources. It did not involve any current Army students.

College Baseball Daily has learned that Army has fired Joe Sottolano for a “pattern of behavior” according to a press release from the academy. Sottolano had been coaching at West Point since 1992 becoming the head coach in 2000. He has a career record of 391-286-5 in his 13 years as the head coach.  Continue reading

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 6 overall seed Virginia opened the 2013 NCAA Baseball Championship with a 2-1 win over Army on Friday (May 31) in the Charlottesville Regional before 3,826 fans at Davenport Field.

The Cavaliers (48-10) play the winner of tonight’s UNC Wilmington (37-21) and Elon (32-28) contest on Sat., June 1 at 6 p.m. Army (29-22) plays the loser of UNCW and Elon tomorrow at 1 p.m. Continue reading

2013 Patriot League Preseason Coaches Poll

PatriotLeagueLogo.jpgCENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Army baseball team was picked first in the Patriot League preseason poll which was released on Wednesday. The Black Knights earned five first-place votes and finished tied with Holy Cross atop the preseason listing, which was compiled by a vote of the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.

Army and Holy Cross, whom Army defeated in three games to claim the 2012 Patriot League tournament championship, both accumulated 45 points to tie for first in the preseason poll. The Crusaders collected six first-place votes. Continue reading

Army set to host the New York Yankees

ColeWhiteArmyWEST POINT, N.Y. – A tradition that began nearly a century ago will be rekindled for the first time since 1986 this spring when the Army baseball team hosts the New York Yankees in an exhibition game at Doubleday Field on Saturday, March 30, at 2 p.m.

Yankees legends such as Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig played at West Point generations ago, and now current superstars like Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira and Robinson Cano will grace the historic playing surface at Doubleday Field. Continue reading
