Saturday Roundup (2/22)

Saturday’s roundup takes us to the PAC 12/Big 10 Challenge in Surprise, AZ where Michigan State pulled off a comeback win late against #1 Oregon State. Down 7-6 entering the top of the 9th, the Spartans pushed across two runs to take the 8-7 lead and held on for the win. Michigan State has been very impressive thus far in 2014, taking the first two games against the PAC 12 this weekend to improve to 4-1 overall and a chance to go 3-0 in the challenge if they can beat Washington on Sunday. Next weekend they will have another opportunity to pick up some quality wins as they face Mississippi State twice in the Diamond Classic in Starkville. Continue reading

2014 SEC Preseason Coaches Poll

SEC Circle Gold Letters on White BackgroundThe South Carolina Gamecocks are predicted to win the 2014 Southeastern Conference baseball championship by a slim one-vote margin, as voted by the league’s 14 baseball coaches in the 23rd annual preseason SEC poll.

The Gamecocks, ranked No. 14 nationally in the preseason USA Today Coaches’ Poll, seek to capture their fourth SEC Championship. LSU and Mississippi State, ranked second and fourth in the USA Today poll respectively, received four votes each in the overall vote. Continue reading

2013 record: 29-30 (14-16)
Finish: Regionals (4th place, Bloomington)

2013 was a season of frustration and disappointment for a team coming off back to back to back College World Series appearances. Injuries decimated the Gators, and many even questioned whether they belonged in a regional after finishing one game over .500 heading into postseason play. BrianAndersonArkansasCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the season with our 2014 Top 100 College Baseball Players. Today, we continue the countdown at number 36 with Arkansas infielder/outfielder Brian Anderson. The Edmond, Oklahoma native attended Deer Creek High School where he finished his senior season with a .509 batting average with 61 runs, 17 doubles and five triples. He was named first-team all-Edmond honors in 2010 and 2011 while being named all-city, all-state, and Suburban Conference Player of the Year in 2011. Continue reading

USA Baseball announces 2014 Collegiate Team Coaching Staff

The manager, Dave Van Horn of the University of Arkansas, was announced in April of 2013. 2014 CBD Top 100 Players Countdown: 52. Colin Poche (Arkansas)

ColinPocheArkansasWe continue the countdown today with number 52, Arkansas LHP Colin Poche. In an impressive freshman campaign with the Razorbacks, Poche posted a 3-0 record with a 1.37 ERA. The talented south paw collected 19.2 innings of work, making eight appearances while holding opponents to a .176 batting average. In five starts, Poche improved to a 3-0 record, earning the win against Mississippi Valley State and tying a season high with six strikeouts in four hitless innings. Continue reading

Arkansas releases 2014 Schedule

DaveVanHornArkansasFAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas baseball team will play 28 games against teams that advanced to the 2013 NCAA Tournament and 35 games at Baum Stadium as head coach Dave Van Horn announced the Razorbacks’ 2014 schedule on Monday.

“This year’s schedule is going to be a good challenge,” Coach Van Horn said. “The way I feel about the schedule is we need to be challenged early and often so we can get ready for conference play.” Continue reading
