ACC Recap for Feb. 20th

The ACC wrapped up the weekend with all the teams in action. The conference went 9-4 with North Carolina sweeping a doubleheader with USC and Missouri.

ACC Weekend Preview (Feb. 18th-20th)

We start up the 2011 season today with all 12 ACC teams in action with most of the top teams facing weaker competition. The best two non-conference matchups this weekend is the Virginia Cavaliers taking part in the Auburn Tigers tourney while North Carolina heads to Southern California to take part in the USC Tournament while slipping in a game with Cal-State Fullerton on Saturday. Sun Belt Conference Announces New Baseball Tournament Format

NEW ORLEANS – Following one of the most successful seasons in Sun Belt Conference baseball history the SBC baseball coaches decided to implement a new tournament format for the upcoming 2011 SBC Baseball Championship.

The new round-robin format, which is similar in scope to the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament, will feature eight of the ten SBC teams competing against each other in two four-team pools with the team with the best record in each pool advancing to the tournament’s championship game. Tighe Dickinson added to Arkansas State Coaching Staff

JONESBORO – Arkansas State head baseball coach Tommy Raffo announced Wednesday the hiring of Tighe Dickinson as assistant baseball coach for the Red Wolves program.

Dickinson will fill the opening left vacant by the departure of Justin Meccage, who left the program for a position with the Pittsburg Pirates organization. Continue reading

Arkansas State helps with Salvation Army

JONESBORO, Ark. (12/9/10) –The Arkansas State baseball team took time out of their preparation for finals this past weekend to take part in the Celebrity Bell Ringer event for the Salvation Army this past Saturday (Dec. 4).

It marked the third year in a row that the ASU baseball team has donated it’s time to help collect donations for the Salvation Army. Continue reading

Powered by three home runs and outstanding relief pitching, No. 4 Florida (34-12) dealt Sun Belt Conference leader Florida Atlantic (31-19) a 7-3 setback on Wednesday night at McKethan Stadium. Austin Maddox (Jacksonville, Fla.) tied the Gators’ single-season record homers by a freshman with his 16th to even the game in the third, senior Matt den Dekker (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) put the hosts in front with a two-run shot in the fifth and freshman Nolan Fontana (Winter Garden, Fla.) provided insurance with a two-run blast in the seventh.

Senior Jeff Barfield (Perry, Ga.) (3-0) tossed four scoreless frames to collect the win and the trio of sophomore Tommy Toledo (Tampa, Fla.), sophomore Greg Larson (Longwood, Fla.) and junior Kevin Chapman (Coral Springs, Fla.) each threw one scoreless inning as Florida improved to 24-3 at home this season.
