Pac12LogoOregon State at Washington

CBD Interview: ASU Bounces Back Behind Coffman, Kellogg

Ryan Burr pitched the ninth inning.LOS ANGELES — Arizona State head coach Tim Esmay called Friday night’s 5-0 loss to USC one of the “least inspired performances we’ve had.” On Saturday, the Sun Devils bounced back with a more enthusiastic vigor as Kasey Coffman and freshman Ryan Kellogg led them to a 6-3 win to even the weekend series at Dedeaux Field.

After managing only one hit on Friday night, Coffman got the Devils going with a single the opposite way to left field to begin the game. He was followed by three more Sun Devils baserunners as Arizona State tripled Friday’s hit total in the first inning and took an early 2-0 lead on JR Ybarra’s two-run single. Continue reading

Silva, a junior college transfer from Fresno City College, shut down the No. 15 Sun Devils through six innings — his longest outing in a USC uniform. Pac-12 Weekend Preview April 12/13/14

Pac12LogoUtah at Oregon State

The Utah Utes travel to Goss Stadium over the weekend to take on the No. 7 ranked Beavers. Utah enters the weekend 14-14 and 4-8 in conference play. Last weekend, Utah was able to take two out of three against Washington State. The Utes Tuesday game against BYU was postponed. Oregon State is 15-6 and 7-2 in conference play. The Beavers took two out of three last weekend against UCLA, but then lost the midweek game against state rival Oregon by a final of 6-3. This should be a series in which the Beavers should dominate. Oregon State sits atop the conference in team ERA with a 1.95 ERA. Utah, on the other hand, ranks sixth in the conference with a 3.74 ERA. Look for the combination of Boyd, Moore, and a healthy improving Wetzler to control the series. It will also be interesting to see if the Beavers get back shortstop Tyler Smith. He has been out with a hand injury for a couple weeks. Continue reading
