CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – For the fourth consecutive year, Coastal Carolina University’s baseball team has been voted the Big South Conference’s preseason favorite by the League’s Head Baseball Coaches, it was announced today by the Conference office. In addition, the coaches voted Chanticleers’ redshirt-junior second baseman Tommy La Stella (Closter, N.J.) the Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year and Coastal Carolina junior Anthony Meo (Cranston, R.I.) the League’s Preseason Pitcher of the Year.
College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the countdown today at number 43 with Coastal Carolina junior RHP Anthony Meo. The Cranston, Rhode Island, native attended Cranston West High School as he helped his team to back-to-back state championships in his final two seasons, garnering All-State honors both seasons. Meo struck out 95 batters in 53 innings his senior season, and was named MVP of the State Championship his junior season. The Washington Nationals selected him in the 2008 MLB Draft in the 43rd round. He decided to attend Coastal Carolina to continue his baseball career. Continue reading Top 100 Countdown: 43. CARY, N.C. — Blue jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and never looked back as they defeated the Red squad 6-1 Thursday night in Game 3 of the Collegiate National Team (CNT) Trials at the National Training Complex (NTC).
With the win the Blue team improves to 1-1-1, while the Red falls to 1-1-1.
