2014 Top 100 Players Countdown: 100. Alex Calbick (Maine)

AlexCalbickMaineCollege Baseball Daily kicks off our countdown to the start of the 2014 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

The first player on the list checking in at number 100 is Maine infielder Alex Calbick. The Burnaby, British Columbia native attended Burnaby Secondary school where he hit.390 as a senior with one home run and 38 RBI and as a junior, batted .333 with a home run and 29 RBI while being a member of the Canadian Junior National Team. The rain held out just long enough at Fiondella Field on Thursday, Sept. 8th for the Hawks to showcase their talent in front of Major League scouts. “It’s a great opportunity for our guys to get on the radar early”, said Head coach Justin Blood. 2013 Raleigh NCAA Regional Day 1 Recap

RALEIGH, N.C. – The William and Mary baseball team opened its 2013 NCAA Tournament in the Raleigh Regional with a milestone victory over No. 23-ranked Ole Miss, 4-2, on Friday afternoon at Doak Field. W&M’s victory over the Rebels marked the Tribe’s first ever NCAA Tournament win as it also set a new single-season school record with 38 wins. A four-run fifth inning propelled the Tribe past the Rebels as W&M plated all four of its runs with two outs. For the year, the Green and Gold improves to 38-22, while Ole Miss falls to 37-23. Binghamton wins 2013 America East Title

TimSinickiBinghamton.jpgKINGSTON, R.I. — Binghamton’s Jake Lambert stole the show as he cruised through eight shutout innings in the Bearcats’ 4-0 win over top-seeded Maine, Sunday afternoon in the America East title game. Pitching on just three days rest after hurling a complete-game, two-hit shutout against Albany on Wednesday, the senior starter and tournament MVP fanned seven batters while allowing just five hits and one walk to lead BU to its second conference championship in five years. America East Conference Tournament Game 5: Maine eliminates Stony Brook

img_0515Lowell, MA— (1)Maine eliminated (4)Stony Brook with a 3-1 win in game five of the America East Conference tournament. On the mound for the Black Bears was Mike Connolly who gave up eight hits for one run through a complete nine innings. Strong hitters for Maine include; Michael Fransoso (2 for 4) picking up two RBIs and scoring once, Sam Balzano (1 for 4) scoring once, and Eric White (3 for 4) accounted for all six of Maine’s hits. America East Conference Tournament Game 4: Binghamton defeats Maine

AmericaEastLogoLowell, MA—(2)Binghamton defeated (1)Maine 10-2 in game four of the America East Conference tournament. Jack Rogalla was on the mound for Binghamton giving up six hits for two runs through seven innings including the two run homerun by Maine’s Fransoso. After the suspension the game resumed at 2:00pm on day three and Greg Ostner was on the hill for Binghamton giving up three hits for no runs through the last two innings. Hits were easy to come by for the Bearcats with the team accumulating 16 hits. Some standouts include Zach Blanden (2 for 5) picking up three RBIs and scoring once, Shaun McGraw (2 for 4) picking up one RBI and scoring once, Brian Ruby (2 for 3) scoring twice, and Bill Bereszniewicz (2 for 3) picking up two RBIs and scoring twice. America East Conference Tournament Game 3: Stony Brook Eliminates Albany

StonyBrookTeamHuddleLowell, MA— Fourth seeded Stony Brook eliminated third seeded Albany 3-1 in game three of the America East Conference tournament. Brandon McNitt started on the mound for the Seawolves giving up five hits for one run through seven innings before Chad Lee came in to relieve him giving up two hits for no runs through his one inning of play. He battled out of a jam in the fifth inning as the Great Danes had loaded up the bases and were threatening to tie the game up at 2. Seawolves head coach Matt Senk visited McNitt to see how he was doing but decided to stick with him. “McNitt has been solid for us this year,” said Senk, “I thought he had good good stuff today so I thought he could get out of it.” Continue reading

Jake Lambert started on the mound for the Bearcats pitching a complete game shut-out allowing two hits through nine innings. Shaun McGraw (3 for 4) had a great game for the Bearcats scoring three times, along with Brian Ruby (1 for 2) scored twice and picking up two RBIs. Other notable hitters include Zach Blanden (1 for 4) picking up one RBI, David Schanz (0 for 4) picking up an RBI, Daniel Nevares (1 for 5) scoring once and picking up an RBI, Jake Thomas (0 for 4) scoring one run, Nick Pancerella (0 for 2) picking up an RBI, and last John Howell (0 for 4) and Bill Bereszniewicz (0 for 2) scored once each.
