2014 CBD Top Players: 49. Nathan Kirby (Virginia)

NathanKirbyWe continue the countdown today with number 49, Virginia LHP Nathan Kirby. In a stellar freshman campaign with the Cavaliers, Kirby was fourth on the staff by appearing in 24 games with 32.2 innings pitched. During the 2013 season the south paw pitched to a 4-1 record posting a 6.06 ERA and showed great command of the zone only allowing 13 walks the entire season. Kirby had the opportunity to start in two games but found success coming out of the bullpen for the Cavaliers, throwing countless shutout innings in 2013. Continue reading

2014 CBD Top 100 Countdown: 55. Branden Cogswell (Virginia)

BrandenCogswellUVAWe continue the countdown today with number 55, Virginia shortstop Branden Cogswell. In his sophomore campaign with the Cavaliers, Cogswell found himself at the top of the lineup where he started the first 47 games. In 182 at bats, the rising junior posted an impressive .346 average with 63 hits, 55 runs and 22 RBI. The 6’2” infielder recorded 20 multiple hit games despite missing the last 15 games due to an injury. Cogswell played a huge part in the Cavaliers success in 2013 and his efforts on the diamond got him selected to the Second-Team All-ACC as well as named to the watch list for the Wallace Award which is given to the nation’s top shortstop. 2014 CBD Top 100 Countdown: 59. Mike Papi (Virginia)

MikePapiWe continue the countdown today with number 59, Virginia OF/1B Mike Papi. In his sophomore season with the Cavaliers, Papi worked his way into the lineup starting 47 of the 55 games he played in. The 6’3” outfielder was named the ACC’s 2013 batting champion with an impressive .381 average and also led the league in on-base percentage (.517) and finished second in slugging (.619). Papi was a threat at the plate, reaching base safely in 47 of the 55 games. The First Team All-American was also named to the All-ACC First Team and earned an invitation to compete for a spot on the 2013 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. Continue reading

Boston College releases 2014 Schedule

GambinoSmallChestnut Hill, Mass. – The Boston College baseball team released the 2014 schedule on Thursday. The 55-game slate features eight teams that were in the 2013 NCAA Tournament and includes a 14-game home stand in Chestnut Hill.

The Eagles open the season in California, taking on Nevada at Santa Clara University on Feb. 14 and Feb. 15 and then playing the host Broncos in the second game of a doubleheader on the 15th and finishing the weekend with a noon game on Sunday. Continue reading

Pittsburgh releases 2014 Schedule

PittLogo_thumb.jpgPITTSBURGH—Pitt baseball’s inaugural ACC season will feature seven series against opponents who participated in the 2013 NCAA Tournament, Panthers’ head coach Joe Jordano announced Thursday.

“I really like this schedule,” said Jordano. “I think what you try to do is position your team to play against competition that is capable of playing, and has been successful, in the NCAA Tournament because that’s our goal. That’s where we want to be at the end of the year so to put us in those type of environments is beneficial not only to us as coaches and players but for our program as well and we’ll continue to do that in the future.” Continue reading

Jameis Winston DNA Match; Coverup in Tallahassee?

JameisWinstonFlorida State starting QB and outfielder Jameis Winston has been involved in a reported sexual assault incident that took place in December of 2012. ESPN.com reported on Wednesday evening that the District Attorney tested a sample from the accuser’s underwear which is a match for Winston’s DNA. Notre Dame releases 2014 Schedule

Virginia releases 2014 Schedule

VirginiaLogoCHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia baseball team released its 2014 schedule on Tuesday (Nov. 5). The Cavaliers will play 34 home games as part of their 55-game schedule.

Virginia’s schedule includes 34 contests against 15 teams that won at least 30 games a year ago, including 22 games against 10 programs that advanced to the 2013 NCAA Tournament (UNC Wilmington, William and Mary, Towson, Virginia Tech, Clemson, North Carolina, Florida State, Liberty, Georgia Tech and Miami). Wake Forest releases 2014 Schedule

WakeForestLogoWINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Fifth-year head coach Tom Walter has announced the 2014 spring schedule for the Wake Forest baseball team.

The Demon Deacons will not be short on quality opponents when the 2014 season kicks off, as Wake Forest is set to play 23 games against NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago. Of those 23 games, 12 will be played against teams that earned a top seed in last year’s tournament, and six more will be played against teams that earned a two seed. Continue reading
