The Demon Deacons will not be short on quality opponents when the 2014 season kicks off, as Wake Forest is set to play 23 games against NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago. We continue the list today at number 83 with UNC RHP Trent Thornton. In his first season with the Tar Heels Thornton quickly proved himself as a top notch starter with three above average pitches and a command of the zone that is usually only seen from veteran players. Thornton saw action in several roles for the Tar Heels as he set the UNC freshman record for wins (12) and tied the freshman record for saves (8) in his 91.2 innings of work. Thornton posted a 1.37 ERA, the seventh-lowest mark in the country. Thornton also earned freshman All-American honors as well as a spot on the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. Continue reading
BLACKSBURG – No matter how you slice it, the 2014 Virginia Tech baseball schedule will be a challenging one for the Hokies under
first-year head coach Patrick Mason. The team will face nine teams (22 games) that made the 2013 NCAA Baseball Championship, and includes four teams (10 games) that made Super Regionals and three teams (seven games) that made the 2013 College World Series.
Miami’s 55-game schedule includes 33 contests inside Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field. The Hurricanes finished with a 28-12 record (.700) at home this past season, qualifying for the NCAA postseason for the 41st consecutive year – the longest active streak in collegiate athletics. CHAPEL HILL — The University of North Carolina baseball team will host 37 games at Boshamer Stadium and play 20 games against teams that reached last season’s NCAA Championship as part of its 2014 schedule, head coach Mike Fox announced Monday. Atlantic Coast Conference matchups with Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Florida State and league newcomer Pittsburgh highlight the home slate, which kicks off with a three-game set against College of Charleston Feb. 14-16. DURHAM, N.C. – Duke baseball head coach Chris Pollard announced the Blue Devils’ 2014 schedule Tuesday as the team is set for 56 regular season games in its second season under Pollard’s guidance.
The Blue Devils face 14 opponents who totaled 30 or more wins this past season, while nearly half of Duke’s schedule consists of games against 2013 NCAA Tournament teams.

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech baseball team has released its 2014 schedule, highlighted by 35 home games, three games versus rival Georgia, match ups with eight teams that reached the NCAA Regionals in 2013 and a late-season series versus USF.
The Yellow Jackets’ 56-game slate begins Friday, February 14 versus Old Dominion in the Georgia Tech Invitational at 4 p.m. Tech also welcomes VCU and Radford for the opening-weekend tournament that will be played in a round-robin format.
