Japan cruises to a 5-2 win over Team USA

USABASEBALL_thumb.jpgHIROSHIMA, Japan – Japan scored five runs in the first two innings and rode them to a 5-2 victory to take a 2-1 series lead over the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. South Carolina’s Grayson Greiner had two hits and an RBI in the loss.

“Obviously it’s not the result we wanted, but you have to give every ounce of credit to Japan’s team,” remarked manager Jim Schlossnagle (TCU). “They pitched outstanding, played great defense and got timely hits.” Continue reading

Team USA defeats Japan 6-3 in Game 1 of Series

USABASEBALL_thumb.jpgMATSUYAMA, Japan – A 50 minute rain delay turned the tides in the favor of the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team as it scored six times in its final four at-bats to take a 6-3 game one victory over Japan. Two Japanese errors led to three unearned Team USA runs.

“It’s a good start for us, but we know we have a long way to go,” remarked manager Jim Schlossnagle. “We didn’t panic after the first inning because we felt like we were having good at-bats against Osera and we just needed to get a timely hit. USA Baseball defeats Catawba Valley 9-2

USABASEBALL_thumb.jpgHICKORY, N.C. – The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team racked up 16 hits and scored nine runs to take a 9-2 victory over Catawba Valley Monday night. Five Team USA pitchers combined to hold the Stars to one hit in the game.

NC State’s Carlos Rodon (1-0) made an impressive debut on the mound, retiring all six batters he faced. Tyler Beede (Vanderbilt) allowed two runs on one hit in four-plus innings. He walked five and struck out five. Nick Burdi (Louisville) came on with runners on the corners in the seventh and struck out two around a sacrifice fly. Daniel Mengden (Texas A&M) retired all five batters he faced and Chris Diaz (Miami, Fla.) struck out the lone batter he faced. Continue reading
