Number 67 on our Top 100 Countdown is Tanner Mathis of Ole Miss. The 5’11 outfielder from Lake Charles, Louisiana was drafted in the 27th round by the Houston Astros in 2012 and enters his senior season with at Ole Miss.  Continue reading

JimmieSherfyOregonSmallCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2013 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be counting down the players day-by-day until we reach number 1.

Number 68 in our Top 100 Countdown is Oregon junior RHP Jimmie Sherfy. The Camarillo, California native attended Newbury Park High School where he was a four year letterwinner. As a senior, he helped lead the team to a 19-10 overall record and 9-5 mark in the Marmonte League. He went 8-1 on the mound in 12 appearances tossing two complete games with a 2.25 ERA on the year.

Top 100 Countdown: 69. Dylan Covey (San Diego)

DylanCoveySmallCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2013 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be counting down the players day-by-day until we reach number 1.

Number 69 in our countdown is San Diego junior RHP Dylan Covey from Pasadena, California attending Maranatha High School. He was a beast in high school posting a 0.40 ERA with 138 strikeouts in 70.2 innings of work. He struck out 14 batters in two separate games while striking out double digit batters on nine different occasions. He was named an AFLAC All-American, the 2010 Gatorade State Player of the Year in California and was a Baseball America first-team All-American. The Milwaukee Brewers picked him with the 14th overall selection in the 2010 MLB Draft but he decided to head to San Diego as it was discovered during his physical that he was suffering from diabetes.

Top 100 Countdown: 70. Jake Reed (Oregon)

imageCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2013 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue our countdown today with number 70 in Oregon sophomore RHP Jake Reed. The 6’2 190 pounder out of La Mesa, California attended Helix High School where he was a three sport athlete. As a senior, he had a 9-1 record with a 0.63 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 67 innings pitched. In the 2011 MLB Draft, he was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 40th round. He failed to come to terms with the White Sox deciding to head to Oregon.

We continue our countdown today with Oregon State junior RHP Dan Child. The Rocklin, California native attended Jesuit High School where he was a three year letter winner. As a senior, he went 6-1 with an ERA of 1.87. He struck out 67 in 52 1/3 innings while allowing 30 hits and allowing 22 walks. Continue reading
