Cape League announces 2011 All-Star Team

CAPE COD, Mass. – Commissioner Paul Galop has announced the 2011 Cape Cod Baseball League All-League Team.

Heading the list of positional players is CCBL Most Valuable Player Travis Jankowski (Stony Brook) of Bourne, who hit .329 with 22 RBIs for the Bourne Braves, along with batting champion Stephen Piscotty (Stanford) of Yarmouth-Dennis, who hit .349, edging out fellow All-League catcher Dane Phillips (Oklahoma State) of Chatham by a mere .0002. UConn’s Springer looking to play Independent Baseball?

MLBTradeRumors.com reports that Houston Astros first round pick George Springer met with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League on Saturday. Springer was selected with the 11th overall pick in the 2011 MLB Draft after an outstanding career at UConn where he led the Huskies to an appearance in the Super Regionals. UConn’s John Andreoli having success in Cape Cod League

Heading into the 2011 season, the real talk around the UConn program was the fact they had two absolute studs in George Springer and Matt Barnes. Both of these young men went in the first round of the 2011 MLB Draft to the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox respectively. The rest of the Huskies squad was extremely talented including outfielder John Andreoli. He ended up finishing the year with a .317 average with 31 RBI as he started all 66 games for the Huskies. UCLA’s Trevor Bauer wins 2011 Golden Spikes Award

SECAUCUS, N.J. — USA Baseball announced Friday the selection of UCLA’s Trevor Bauer as the recipient of the 2011 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award (GSA). The prestigious award, now in its 34th year of recognizing the nation’s top amateur baseball player, was presented on live television for the first time on MLB Network. South Carolina’s Bradley Jr. looking to Return?

WEEI.com writer Alex Speier reports that South Carolina outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. is preparing to return to Columbia for the 2012 campaign. The Boston Red Sox selected him  with the 40th overall selection after having surgery for torn tendons in his left wrist. He returned for the 2011 College World Series where he helped lead the Gamecocks to their second straight national championship.
