Duke’s Marcus Stroman continues to Impress

Duke rising junior RHP/infielder Marcus Stroman spent this summer as a member of the USA Collegiate National Team. He appeared in seven games totaling 8.1 innings of innings without giving up a single hit while walking one batter. This is the second straight summer that Stroman has impressed as in 2010, he played with the Orleans Firebirds in the Cape Cod League. He didn’t give up a run then either in 15 appearances (one start) in 25.0 innings pitched. He allowed 10 hits while striking out 32 batters. Team USA rallies past Japan to complete Doubleheader Sweep

DURHAM, N.C. – Dominic Ficociello’s (Arkansas) run-scoring single in the seventh proved to be the game-winner as the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team defeated Japan, 4-3, Tuesday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

For the second time during the series, Team USA used a late-inning rally to defeat Japan, and on Tuesday, it gave the club a doubleheader sweep. U.S. Collegiate National Team takes Game 1 of DH, 8-2

CARY, N.C. – The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team scored seven runs in the seventh in game one of a doubleheader Tuesday, downing Japan, 8-2, at the National Training Complex Stadium.

USA Collegiate National Team rallies past Japan 7-6

DURHAM, N.C. – The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team scored five runs in the seventh for a comeback victory, 7-6, over Japan Sunday afternoon at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

USA Collegiate National Team claims second game of Prospect Classic, 8-1

CARY, N.C. – The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team downed the 18U National Team, 8-1, Saturday night in the second of two games featuring the clubs at the Prospect Classic.

The two-game matchup was the first of its kind between USA Baseball’s top two clubs featuring draft-eligible players. The CNT won, 12-1, Friday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park and was victorious again on Saturday at the National Training Complex Stadium. Collegiate National Team crushes 18U National Team 12-1

DURHAM, N.C. – In the first-ever USA Baseball Prospect Classic, which pitted the Collegiate National Team against the 18U National Trials team, CNT came out ahead taking game one of the two-game series 12-1 Friday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Complex.

Brian Johnson stole the show in his first game with CNT going 2-for-2 with three RBI and three walks at the plate. The 2010 CNT alum also tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief recording a pair of strikeouts. Continue reading Collegiate National Team crushes 18U National Team 12-1

USA Collegiate National Team hammers Gastonia, 12-5

GASTONIA, N.C. – Michael Lorenzen (Cal State Fullerton) homered and drove in four to lead the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team to a 12-5 win over Gastonia Thursday night at Sims Legion Park.

Every player in the lineup – nine total — recorded at least one hit in the team’s win as the club tallied 15 overall and improved to 6-1 this summer. Thursday’s game marked the finale for Team USA against summer collegiate clubs with the two-game Prospect Classic against the 18U National Team scheduled to get underway Friday. Team USA defeats New Bedford 7-5

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. – Tyler Naquin (Texas A&M) hit two home runs and drove in five to lead the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team to a 7-5 win over New Bedford Wednesday night at Paul Walsh Field.

Naquin’s home runs were the first of the summer for the Collegiate National Team, which finished its tour of the New England Collegiate Baseball League Wednesday. Team USA is 5-1 as it heads to play in Gastonia, N.C., on Thursday. Continue reading Team USA defeats New Bedford 7-5
