2009 Aflac All-American Game Recap

AflacAll-AmericanGame SAN DIEGO – In a game where the talent was so evenly matched, the outcome of Sunday afternoon’s Aflac All-American High School Baseball Classic was fitting.

A triple down the right field line by Rancho Buena Vista (Calif.) High School shortstop Tony Wolters sent the seventh annual Aflac All-American High School Baseball Classic into extra innings for the first time since the game’s inception in 2003. A unique extra innings format saw both teams score a run in the 10th inning, and the game ended in a 4-all tie Sunday night at Petco Park before a record crowd of 8,027. The overall East vs. West series record for the Aflac All-American Classic, which features 40 of the nation’s premiere high school baseball players, now stands at 3-3-1. Continue reading

2009 Under Armour High School All-American Game

UnderArmourAllStarGame COLUMBIA, MD – Under Armour and Baseball Factory today announced that the 2009 Under Armour All-America Baseball Game will once again be played at the historic Wrigley Field on Saturday, August 8. This is the second year that Under Armour will serve as the game’s title sponsor.  The game will air live nationally on ESPNU.

The 2009 Under Armour All-America Baseball Game, powered by Baseball Factory will showcase thirty-six of the nation’s best rising juniors and seniors, competing in a Baseball Factory versus Team One Baseball match-up.

2009 Aflac All-American Game Announced

pressconferencefield350 SAN DIEGO –  For the third time in four years, 40 of the nation’s top high school baseball players will descend upon San Diego to play in the Aflac All-American High School Baseball Classic, the country’s premier high school baseball showcase. This year’s game will be played on Aug. 16 at 5 p.m. PDT in PETCO Park, home of the San Diego Padres, and will once again be televised live nationally on FOX Sports Net.

The Classic features an East vs. West format, played annually during the late summer before most participants have returned to school. For the second consecutive year, the Aflac Classic will be played in a major league venue. The 2008 showcase was played in Los Angeles’ historic Dodger Stadium. The 2006 and 2007 games were held at San Diego State University’s Tony Gwynn Stadium.
The Aflac All-American Classic, however, is more than just a game. As part of Aflac’s ongoing commitment to the fight against childhood cancer, all game proceeds from the 2009 Aflac All-American High School Baseball Classic will benefit Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. Since 2003, the game has generated nearly $685,000 for charity.

These prep players are in the middle of making a tough decision on where to play baseball for the next 3-4 seasons. The early signing period officially begins on November 11 and ends eight days later on November 19th. Once they have made their commitment to a school then comes along the June draft where the players could sign a professional contract skipping out on playing college baseball. The players are put in alphabetical order to keep it simple as we will continue this series over the next five days until we preview all 70 kids on our list.

USA Baseball announces 18U Trials invitees

CARY, N.C. — USA Baseball (USAB) has announced a group of 34 players who will be considered for inclusion on its 2009 18U National Team for international competition. The 34 players, along with 10 alternates, were selected from those who participated this week in the 17th Annual Tournament of Stars, presented by Major League Baseball, at USAB’s National Training Complex in Cary.
