Clemson Punches Ticket to College World Series


Clemson, SC – Richie Shaffer hit two home runs to help build an 8-1 lead and #13 Clemson withstood a nine-inning rally to defeat #16 Alabama 8-6 in front of 5,250 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in the Clemson Super Regional on Monday afternoon. The Tigers, who improved to 43-23 on the season, won the super regional 2-1 and advanced to the College World Series with the win. The Crimson Tide ended their season with a 42-25 record.

After Alabama scored an unearned run in the first inning, Clemson scored two runs apiece in the second, third, fourth, and seventh innings to take an 8-1 lead. But the Crimson Tide rallied for five runs in the ninth inning and put the potential tying run at second base before the final out was made to send Clemson to its 12th College World Series in history and first since 2006.

Freshman righthander Dominic Leone (3-1), the first of five Tiger pitchers, earned the win. He allowed just three hits, one unearned run, and one walk with three strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched. Alex Frederick pitched the next 2.1 innings, allowing just one hit, no runs, and no walks with a strikeout. Will Lamb retired the only batter he faced to record his second save of the season as well.

Alabama starter Nathan Kilcrease (8-3) suffered the loss in 5.0 innings pitched. He yielded 11 hits, six runs, and two walks with one strikeout.

Clemson hammers Alabama 19-5; Forces Game 3 on Monday


NCAA  Alabama Clemson Baseball Clemson, SC – Behind 20 hits along with a six-run first inning and a nine-run sixth inning, #13 Clemson defeated #16 Alabama 19-5 in front of 6,024 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in the Clemson Super Regional on Sunday night. The Tigers, who evened the series 1-1, improved to 42-23. The Crimson Tide dropped to 42-24.

The Tigers jumped all over the Crimson Tide with six runs in the first inning and never looked back. In all, the Tigers totaled 20 hits and were 10-for-18 with runners in scoring position. Alabama scored in five of the nine innings, but it could only muster one run in each of those five frames.

Alabama grabs a tight 5-4 victory over Clemson


BamaPhoto CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 16 Alabama baseball team scored four runs in the second inning and then rode the clutch pitching of junior right-hander Jimmy Nelson, senior left-hander Jonathan Smart and senior right-hander Jake Smith to a 5-4 win over No. 13 Clemson in game one of the 2010 NCAA Super Regional in front of a jam-packed crowd of 6,346 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Saturday night.

Alabama (42-23) has won 13 of its last 15 games, including a four-game winning streak, and moved to within one win of its first College World Series appearance since 1999 with the one-run win over the Tigers.

Super Regional Preview: Alabama at Clemson

RutledgeAlabama The Alabama Crimson head to Clemson SC to take on the Clemson Tigers with a berth in the College World Series at stake. The Crimson Tide enter with a 41-23 overall record while they went 4-1 in the Regional round. They defeated Elon in the first game 11-2 before dropping a 5-2 decision to Georgia Tech. They then went on a three game winning streak with a 5-3 victory over Mercer before defeating Georgia Tech 8-1 and 10-8. The Clemson Tigers enter with a 41-22 overall record while they had a 3-1 record in the Regionals. They opened the tourney with a 10-1 win over Southern Miss and Auburn 5-2. In the Regional Championship, they dropped game one 11-10 to Auburn before winning the final game 13-7.
