TCU defeats Texas 4-1; Advances to CWS

12 June 2010:  during the 2010 NCAA Baseball Super Regional at Austin featuring the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs and the University of Texas Longhorns at UT Disch-Falk Field in Austin, TX. AUSTIN, Texas–TCU earned the first College World Series appearance in school history Sunday with a 4-1 victory over No. 2 seed Texas in the final game of the best-of-three Super Regional.

Kyle Winkler pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings to earn the victory, allowing only five hits while striking out six.Tyler Lockwood, who broke the TCU record for career appearances with his 86th Sunday, pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to record the save.

Texas evens Super Regional with 14-1 win over TCU

Taylor Jungmann AUSTIN, Texas  - Taylor Jungmann gave up only one run on six hits in 8 1-3 innings to lead Texas to a series-tying 14-1 win over TCU in the NCAA Super Regional on Saturday.

The Longhorns (50-12) scored four times in the third inning, including twice when Jantzen Witte’s throwing error allowed Brandon Loy and Tant Shepherd to score. Texas added to the lead with a seven-run fifth. Cohl Walla’s bases-loaded triple to left-center put Texas up 9-0. Shepherd extended the lead to 12-0 with an two-run homer.

Matt Purke leads TCU to 3-1 victory over Texas

05 June 2010:  during the 2010 NCAA Baseball Regional at Fort Worth featuring the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs and the University of Arizona Wildcats at Lupton Stadium in Fort Worth, TX. AUSTIN, Texas - The series was billed as a pitcher’s dual and game one of the 2010 NCAA Austin Regional didn’t disappoint as Matt Purke and Tyler Lockwood led the No. 5 TCU Horned Frogs to a 3-1 victory over No. 2 Texas. Purke struck out 11 and limited the Longhorns to just three hits.

In 7 2/3 innings pitched, the left-handed freshman allowed just one run on three hits. He walked one, hit a batter and fanned 11 to improve to 14-0 on the season. Tyler Lockwood retired all four batters he faced to lock down his sixth save of the season.

Super Regional Preview: TCU at Texas

080408_ruffin_thumb1 For the second year in a row, TCU rolls down Interstate 35 to Disch-Falk Field to take on the Texas Longhorns for the right to represent the great State of Texas in Omaha. The Horned Frogs from Fort Worth bring to Austin a want for revenge after getting within a single game of their first ever College World Series in 2009 before falling in the deciding game to the eventual runner-up Longhorns. TCU has their eyes on the prize, but so does Texas.

TCU enters the series ranked #5 in the NCWBA poll, a spot behind Texas. Each team boasts an identical 49-11 record. Each team is loaded with a trio of All-American caliber starting pitchers, but Texas has one more thing in the repertoire: postseason tradition. The Longhorns have been there, and done that. The Horned Frogs haven’t quite gotten there yet, but that doesn’t mean they won’t upset Goliath.
