D3 Regional: Husson knocks out Westfield State

MANSFIELD Conn.- A sloppy seventh inning proved to to be the difference in the second game of Division III NCAA Regional action between Westfield State and Husson.

The Eagles scored six runs in the inning to turn a 3-2 deficit into an 8-3 advantage en route to a 10-3 victory.

“Today we came out and we battled,” Husson head coach Jason Harvey said. “We didn’t come up with some key hits until late in the game but [pitcher] Nate [Adams] kept us in the game and we capitalized on some of their errors.” Continue reading D3 Regional: Husson knocks out Westfield State

D3 Regionals: Eastern Connecticut rebounds with convincing win over Suffolk

MANSFIELD Conn.- The first three innings of the opening game of day two of the Division III New England Regional saw fifth seeded Suffolk match top seeded Eastern Connecticut run for run and the teams were tied 2-2 entering the fourth.

The Warriors pushed across two in top of the fourth to go ahead 4-2 and the Rams were poised to respond in turn during the bottom of the inning.

Division 3 New England Regionals: Day 1 Recap

The College Baseball Blog was in attendance on May 13th for the first day of action in the 2009 Division 3 New England Regional in Mansfield Connecticut. The first game of the day featured WPI taking on Suffolk College which was won by WPI by a score of 7-6. The game was WPI’s first in the NCAA Tournament in the 106 year history of their program. The second game of the day featured Babson taking on the host school of Eastern Connecticut State. Babson used a big seven run second inning to grab a 9-0 lead and hold on for a 10-6 victory. The third game of the day saw Trinity (CT) take on Westfield State. The Bantams were able to get a James Wood homer which gave them the lead for good as they picked up the 6-4 victory. The final game of the night saw Southern Maine take on Husson. Southern Maine was able to pick up a 5-4 ten inning victory on a Mike Eaton single to right field. D3 Regional: Southern Maine walks off against Husson

MANSFIELD Conn.- Powerful Southern Maine and sophomore Mike Eaton took a while to wake out of their slumber, but when they did, the Huskies walked off winners in the opening round on the New England Regional.
After going hitless early on and making a key error in the field, Eaton lined a one out single in the bottom of the tenth to send Southern Maine to a 5-4 win against the Husson Eagles. Continue reading D3 Regional: Southern Maine walks off against Husson

D3 Regional: Wood’s blast lifts Trinity over Westfield State

MANSFIELD Conn.-The ball off the bat of Trinity junior James Wood kept carrying and carrying before finally disappearing over the left field wall.

D3 Regional: Babson knocks off top seeded Eastern Connecticut

MANSFIELD CONN.- While the first NCAA regional game between WPI and Suffolk went down to the wire, the second game of the day between Babson and Eastern Connecticut was decided early thanks to a barrage of hits by the Beavers and a 158 pitch, ten strikeout complete game by sophomore Andrew Aizenhadt.

D3 Regionals: WPI Rallies to beat Suffolk

MANSFIELD CONN.- The opening game of the Division III New England regional began with a dominating pitching performance by WPI senior Conor Fahey that appeared to put the Engineers in line for an easy win.
