Trinity’s Jeremiah Bayer, the New England Pitcher of the Year, stared in at the plate. Looking back was Eastern senior Shawn Gilblair, the New England hitter of the year, up in the top of the ninth with his team trailing by one.
The College Baseball Blog sent writer Nate Owen to cover the Division 3 Regional in Mansfield Connecticut on Friday. The first game of the day featured Trinity (CT) taking on Southern Maine in a winner’s bracket game. Trinity was able to walk away with a 6-0 victory. The second game of the day saw Husson defeat Babson by a score of 10-6 to eliminate Babson. The third game of the day was between Eastern Connecticut and Southern Maine which was won by Eastern Connecticut by a score of 7-2 to end Southern Maine’s season. MANSFIELD Conn. – Down 4-0 before they came to bat against Babson, Husson had little reason to be concerned.
The scrappy Eagles once again battled back for the third time in as many games, hustling their way to six runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to come away as 10-6 winners over the eighth seeded Beavers (23-19) in an elimination game at Eastern Connecticut Stadium. And they were.
Trinity senior Jeremiah Bayer, the NESAC Pitcher of the Year, and Southern Maine senior Tim Therrian (9-1), the Little East Pitcher of the Year, locked in a scoreless dual until the fifth, when the third seeded Bantams scored the first of their six runs on the game, which would be all would need to move to 2-0 in New England Regional of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The College Baseball Blog writer Nate Owen was again in attendance during the second day of the NCAA Division 3 New England Regional hosted by Eastern Connecticut State. The first game of the day featured Eastern Connecticut getting an elimination game victory over 13-2 victory over Suffolk. The second elimination game that followed was between Husson University and Westfield State College. Husson would walk away with a 10-3 victory over Westfield State which ended their season. The third game of the day featured a winner’s bracket matchup between WPI and Babson. WPI was able to win the game by a score of 15-5 as they upped their record in the regional to 2-0.
