Isaiah Howes who played on the 2007 Louisville Baseball team which qualified for the College World Series shot and killed former Louisville football player Daniel Covington after a disagreement early Thursday morning. Howes led the 2007 team in all three triple crown categories hitting .391 with 18 homer and 69 RBI starting all 71 games on the year. He hasn’t appeared in a minor league game since the 2007 season when he played in 39 games while hitting .193 with two homers and 10 RBI.
One of the things looked over by many College Baseball fans is the education side of the game. MLB.com recently sat down with former Florida Gator and current Cleveland Indians player Matt LaPorta who recently completed his degree in Recreation and Event Planning. LaPorta ended up playing four years of baseball with the Gators but never actually completed his studies.
The 2007 Wallace Watch List has been released by the College Baseball Foundation. The list is full of 120 athletes but the ACC is represented with 12 players including Boston College’s Jared McGuire and Georgia Tech players Matt Wieters and Danny Payne. The award was won in 2006 by Brad Lincoln of Houston.
The full list of 120 players can be read here in a PDF format.
