New Mexico State set to host New Orleans

The New Mexico State Aggies will host the New Orleans Privateers on Friday in the first game of a three game set. The Aggies are coming off a 22-34 season while going 6-18 in the WAC. New Orleans is coming off a Sun Belt championship which saw them participate in the Wichita State Regional where they went 1-2. The Privateers are led by Johnny Giavotella who has been named to several All-American teams. Continue reading

UC-Irvine set to visit Nevada

The UC-Irvine Anteaters will open the season at the University of Nevada. The Anteaters are coming into the season after going 47-17-1 and qualifying for the CWS after winning the Texas Regional and the Wichita State Super Regional. They will have a new coach in 2008 with Mike Gillespie taking over for Dave Serrano who left for Cal-State Fullerton. Nevada comes into the season coming off a 35-26 campaign while going 15-9 in the WAC which was good enough for second place in the conference.

Hawaii-Hilo salvages Game 3

The Hawaii-Hilo Vulcans salvaged Game 3 of their series with the University of Hawaii with a 4-3 victory. They were led by Shane Kessel who went 2-4 with 2 RBI. Kekoa Lee pitched 5.1 strong innings while allowing only two runs on five hits. Dustin Gilmore shut down the Warriors offense over the final two innings to pick up his first save of the season. Hawaii-Hilo will head home to host Kansas in the Jayhawks home opener. Hawaii will stay home next weekend when San Francisco visits for a four game set over three days.

Hawaii starts season 2-0

The Hawaii Rainbows knocked off the Hawaii-Hilo Vulcans in the second game in the entire nation by a score of 9-2. Jonathan Hee had a solid day in the leadoff role as he went 1-3 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBI, and a stolen base. Jared Alexander got his first weekend start for the Rainbows and was outstanding. He went eight shutout innings while allowing five hits and two walks to pick up his first win of the season. The Vulcans got to Hawaii reliever Sam Spangler for 2 runs in the top of the ninth but the Rainbows had the game well in hand.

Hawaii knocks off Vulcans in 11

The Hawaii Rainbows knocked off Hawaii-Hilo Vulcans in eleven innings by a 5-4 score. Derek DuPree hit a single through the right side with Kevin Fujii scoring his second run of the game to give the Rainbows the victory in the first game in the entire nation. The Rainbows came up with a single run in the bottom of the ninth after a crucial Vulcan error to allow Landon Hernandez to reach with no outs. The Rainbows pinch ran for Hernandez with Kevin Fujii who moved to second on a bunt from Nathan Young. He was ended up getting driven in by Hoey to tie the game up.

CSTV previews WAC and WCC

CSTV continues their series of previews with the West Coast Conference and the WAC. Sorensen picks San Diego to win the West Coast Conference with Pepperdine as a contender and Santa Clara is the darkhorse. The preview is available here. Hawaii set to host Hawaii-Hilo

The Uniform Start Date is Febraury 22nd but Hawaii and Hawaii-Hilo will open the season on Febraury 15th to kick off the year. The Vulcans and Rainbows will play a three game set from Friday-Sunday. The Rainbows are coming off a 38-25 season with a conference record of 11-13. They return Matt Daly who threw a no-hitter in the Cape Cod League this past season. Hawaii-Hilo is coming off a 12-35-1 campaign while losing top pitcher Lars Knepper who threw three complete games for the Vulcans.
